I posted some thoughts about how he will lift the play of others on our team in the "Random Player" thread, but I just wanted to document this little Twitter exchange for posterity.

Original Cam reply here:
Bedoya favorited my reply... I nearly shit a brick.
Also I go to sleep and 4 pages later.... Damnit guys.

I responded on Twitter to them and told them it's nonsense. They also posted a piece last week on why Pirlo isn't a good fit. They need to get off the sauce. I wonder if they're even NYCFC fans over there.
The person who started it isn't. I think he's just a NY soccer fan who started the blog up because no had done it yet. I remember him sympathizing with the Cosmos when they were criticized on r/MLS back when I used to post on there.

I will have to disagree here. I'm a first generation Italian-American, and I can tell you that my family is going nuts over this, even the folks who are just casual fans of Serie A teams. This is a big deal for us. For one of the greats to come play here is huge, and many of them have expressed that they're going to start following NYCFC if he signs.
My only quibble with this is that aren't most Italian-American families into their 2nd, 3rd or even 4th generations now? Wouldn't that diminish somewhat for them?

You think Hernandez will give the number 21 to Pirlo , club ask him too or Pirlo chooses a new number for a new league ?
Pirlo needs to pick something with a 3 in it because that's where I ended up on the whole put your picture on teh jersey number thing.

The only way I see that as possible is if Juventus want to clear room and money for incoming players.

They don't want him to leave, I don't think they'll let him go for free. With Boca and Tevez they're still trying to get a fee and a player, or a couple players instead of a fee, and they are resigned to him leaving. Juve management has stated that they want Pirlo to remain, I think for him to leave some sort of fee will need to be made, unless CFG try to work in a MCFC player as part of the "deal".

I don't really buy too much of this NY v. CFG stuff here, and think it's more spinning, twisting, embellishing and fabricating. And then the domino effect of trolls, hacks, haters and click inducers running with it.

Twellman said similar to Wahl.

I think the age is overblown. They are right in saying they are not long-term solutions. They are immediate solutions, though. And a team that had an 11 game winless streaks (regardless of our 3 game win streak) does need immediate solutions.

And you can add that Baldy Bastard to the ever growing 'soccer media' shit list
What the hell does Grant Wahl know about what is a good fit for our team? He has no idea who else we might bring in or what formation we will play! You can't make this up!

I maintain, if any other MLS team was signing Pirlo it would be all honey and roses. Soriano, Tixi and Kreis know more about soccer than Alien headed Grant Wahl. I'll trust them with soccer decisions over some ex basketball journalist thank you very much.

But you know what? NYCFC generates clicks and retweets and gets everybody talking.
And that was part of the reason the team was set up. So even if it is negative I'll take it.
Better to most talked about than be irrelevant
I suppose...

Ummmm Grant Wahl is a genius haven't you seen the movie "POWDER" they made about him and how difficult his childhood was?

You don't have to look too far to see what we are becoming. We are the Yankees of MLS. We will have the largest fan base and also the most haters. But we will do anything to win. I'm ok with CFG trying to bring in players like Pirlo and it not working. I want to support a team that is willing to take an aggressive approach and take chances. And just like the Yankees...a lot of their signings don't work out, but there are many that do. Or we can become the Mets...which for the sake of comparisons, I believe the Red Bulls are. Always a bridesmaid never a bride. We wanna be big, gotta think big. So i would love to have Pirlo now...if he comes in Feb, I'll be disappointed, but I'll get over it and be happy we at least have him coming. If he doesn't work out for us on the pitch...oh well we tried. I'm not there for the chicken wing bucket, I'm there cause I believe that we will become the Yankees, Canadiens, Cowboys of this league.

All anyone needs to know about these "journalists" are they are the same people who pushed the "Mix hasn't performed well for NYC, not sure why he gets call ups" narratives.

Meanwhile, he's outplayed every midfielder on the U.S. squad except MB90. Seriously, one of them says one thing, and the rest just run with it. There is no way anyone who has watched our games with a shred of understanding of how soccer works, or even physics, would not know that Mix hasn't been our problem. The problem lies in his lack of help. Same for Villa. So yeah, two guys who have shown their quality elsewhere just get here and underperform. Surreeee.....

Same dumbass minds, I tell you. They'll get over it. And when it's all said and done, the whole damn lot of them will owe a debt of gratitude to NYCFC and CFG for upping the level of the entire league.
