Good interview here @ 28:45. http://www.bluecityradio.com/?p=407
Interesting that the only NYCFC player quotes come from Mikey Lopez. The culture (or even rules) about not talking to the press is really strong in this club.
My only beef with PV is he’s skiddish when closing out games. Whether it’s a 2 goal lead or 1 we never play the same way for 90 minutes.
We should continue playing possession football with a lead going into the final quarter of a game rather than bunker and give the ball to the opposition. That’ll never sit well with me. If that’s done on purpose every time because it’s how he wants to play I don’t agree with it. If it’s because he doesn’t have faith in his players to not make mistakes and give up counters then I still don’t agree with it.
Actually I do have another beef. It took us way too long to get past the NE press. He waited until halftime when we were already a goal down, due to not being able to beat the press, to finally make an adjustment. He pushed both of the fullbacks up and gave the midfield an added outlet moving forward. Nearly the entire first half our Fullbacks were sitting as deep as our CB’s while we attempted to pass our way out and then finally went back to SJ and he booted it back to NE.
And it’s like....I like this post. But it's like a team playing prevent defense. Sometimes you need to keep your foot on the accelerator. I think we close out games better when we burn them off with possession.
Passable, by way of Italian, IIRCHow's Vieira's Spanish?
Passable, by way of Italian, IIRC
Can only imagine what a Frenchman's Italianized Spanish must sound like. Does he speak it with the guys in training? Seems like I've only heard him shouting in English during games.
This may explain why Maxi never shot last year - Vieira’s butchered translation of “shoot every chance you get when 1v1” was understood by Maxi to be “never shoot unless the net is open”. The off-season had PV practicing with the Rosetta Stone. Can only imagine what a Frenchman's Italianized Spanish must sound like. Does he speak it with the guys in training? Off topic, but I think Villa and Pirlo taking English classes in the City with random people was one of the best stories about the Club. This may explain why Maxi never shot last year - Vieira’s butchered translation of “shoot every chance you get when 1v1” was understood by Maxi to be “never shoot unless the net is open”. He probably thinks it means, “the league of major soccer,” rather than, “the major league soccer.” He does that with words and phrases.PV would be the perfect league ambassador if he stopped referring to it as "THE" MLS
And 1 Quite Really High. Maybe it was in anticipation of the upcoming 420
