Bruce Arena would like to disagree.

Isn't all of that Reyna's job?Salary caps aren't hard to figure out? NBA and NFL teams have designated capologists on the payroll, and they've had a cap forever.
And it's not just the cap - it's the player pool. Picking the right players from the youth academy is entirely different than accurately assessing the college player pool, understanding NASL allocation order, making smart trades to gain more allocation cash, cleverly using your core player and DP slots, and finding a starting defender for less than $300k.
It's *massively* challenging. It's not that someone from overseas can't figure it out -- of course they can. But can Viera and CFG figure it out before people here, there and everywhere turn on them just like they did Kreis? That's not likely.
I saw a lot of Moyes to NYCFC rumors on Twitter, so it must've been true.If we'd just held off a couple more days... Could've got Davie Moyes!
Not a chance. If you're really going to give him a pass due to the roster after everyone here hammered Kreis despite *serious* roster restrictions that weren't of his own making, you're dealing in the absurd.
Rather have Vieira! If we'd just held off a couple more days... Could've got Davie Moyes!
But the issue is if this hire meant to groom MCFC future manager or right the ship at NYCFC? I think there can be a balance but I would be very unhappy if Vieira doesn't finish out his contract and is beaming up to the mothership early. You mention CFG & the mothership yet fail to understand before CFG the 'mothership' was worse off than NYCFC. CFG wants NYCFC to be a winner just like the 'mother ship'
OMG PEOPLE!! How's He Gonna Coach My Andrea?? Your telling me that the man who was apart of the French Team that lost The World Cup to ITALY is now Couching ANDREA PIRLO! WTF? OK Baby Go Home! Go to Inter now ! What does it matter you took a million steps backward coming to the MLS to end your career. Who Cares at this point? At least with Inter you would be Home with the Team you Loved as a child and was your Blood and wanted to be with forever! This Team was your big Start it's only fitting it be the End! In ITALY HOME Where you Belong!
I'm highly dubious of Reyna's function in this club. And it scares me to no end that CFG is trusting Reyna and failed former Union technical director with helping Vierra with the MLS roster rules and team building.Isn't all of that Reyna's job?
I read all your posts with Karen Hill's accent from Goodfellas, when Henry comes home drunk and she yells at her mom.OMG PEOPLE!! How's He Gonna Coach My Andrea?? LA were awful at first because of short sighed decisions like we are making now. They were one of the worst teams in the league despite spending stupid amounts of money on their DP's.Bruce Arena would like to disagree.
Not really - the absolute best DPs will command a transfer fee, and the transfer fee has to be paid out of allocation money. You've got a very limited amount of it and so far, we've mostly used it for trading and for buying down contracts. Some teams will spend a significantly higher amount than others though in MLS, so to an extent, your argument is somewhat incorrect. Not to mention there is no limit on the DP rule, enabling us to gain better DP's than other teams, since we are willing to spend.
Vieira: "Ok, I took a look at the roster and I need to buy a CB and a CDM. What's my transfer budget?"
Reyna: "Uhhh, we don't have a transfer budget."
Vieira: "No transfer budget? So how do we get players?"
Reyna: "We have the draft, the allocation, trades, discovery claims, and need to fit all players except for 3 under the salary cap."
Vieira: "Ok, got it. So I need to buy a CB and a CDM. What's my transfer budget?"
Reyna: "That's what I am telling you. We don't have a transfer budget, but we do have the #4 pick in the SuperDraft and I am looking to trade 3 players or sign free transfers out of Latin America for under $250K wages."
Vieira: "Ok, got it. Wages under $250K. So what's my transfer budget?"
In most cases yes, but if Messi wanted to play for NYCFC and only NYCFC, and he had a $100M transfer fee, and CFC decided it was a good move, MLS would bend over backwards to allow it to happen - allocation $$ be damned. They'd do it in a heartbeat for him or any other major signing that would help the reputation of the league. Not really - the absolute best DPs will command a transfer fee, and the transfer fee has to be paid out of allocation money. Actually if you are signing a DP then his transfer fee and his wage is wrapped in his total cost, which the DP slot accommodates for. Look at LA, spent something like $7 million on Dos Santos's transfer fee from Villareal and their paying him ~$5 million a year, but his DP hit on the cap still ~$450,000. Transfer fee doesn't change any of that. Not really - the absolute best DPs will command a transfer fee, and the transfer fee has to be paid out of allocation money.
