Patrick Vieira Appointed As NYCFC Coach

_ He should have the respect of the DP's which I don't think Kreis did

This. As much as most MLS fans ooohed an aaaahhed at Kreis managing NYCFC (cos Kreis won an MLS cup and constructed an RSL team that was consistently a top team in MLS for years), do you think Lamps/Villa/Pirlo, who have all played for top managers in the game, would really listen to a guy who is practically their age but never played above MLS level? It's one thing for Mou and Capello to bark an order at you, another for some guy whos claim to fame was winning a MLS cup years ago.

The DPs will respect Vieira because they played with him and/or knew him as one of the best midfielders in the game. And they respect that he started his coaching career in Europe with a reserve team which is a common coaching path for former players.

_ I fully expect us to get more MCFC academy players and BETTER ones loaned to us. CFG will 100 percent trust Vieira to develop them in a way they never did Kreis.

This too. If we don't have four loan players for the full season (starting in training camp), something is wrong. Vieira knows EDS backwards and forwards and is an inside guy with CFG. Once again, PV coming to CFG and say "I want player X" who he has coached for a number of years on EDS is different than Kreis saying "I want player Y" and CFG pushing back.

Hopefully they find a way to jettison the expansion draft deadweight, and go young with a majority of the roster (with the DPs playing the leadership roles). Anybody see Dallas recently? Play your kids. Play your kids.

This really shouldn't be a big deal to people, but as we've learned from the Kreis hatejerk, it is apparently of vital importance. Anyone have insight here? Does he yell "rah rah" when we score?

I couldn't care if he blows bubbles on the sidelines for 90 minutes or does cartwheels if the team wins and he has the respect of his players and gets the most out of them. I'm sure nobody would have cared about Kreis scowling for 90 minutes if the team won more games.

There is never a safe choice in this sport. But there is a huge difference between gambling on someone like Capello who has a world class pedigree as a coach in Europe. And gambling on someone with zero coaching experience with Patrick Viera.
I agree with "huge difference" but not with your conclusions. Capello has risk as well. Long pedigree but recent failures (or at least underperformances). Also business risk with a playing style geared toward 0-0 ties and the occasional 1-0 win. Also organizational risk. Vieira knows and is bought into the CFG system.

I'm not saying Vieira=Capello. I just think you are undervaluing the risk of Capello and overvaluing the risk of Vieira who presumably CFG has watched coach for years and can reasonably predict how he will perform. Can't always predict wins and losses, but should certainly be able to predict activity. That's a huge risk to mitigate. Not to mention probably a MUCH lower price tag and again presumably the blessing of the DPs.

-Enough about PV, who's the player who scored that sick volley at 3:10? Sign him up!
-Also there are a number of Angelino sightings (with a bleached blond cut) throughout the clip.

But that aside, his speaking manner is quiet and unassuming.

*Please bring Angelino back*
I think it's a foregone conclusion Angelino and Facey will be back unless Vieira doesn't want them (i.e. has other loanees that he thinks will be better pieces to the puzzle). My thought being if they aren't on the MCFC 1st team, they'll want to be with the guy that's been guiding them this entire time.

But that aside, his speaking manner is quiet and unassuming.

Agreed. But he's still very much engaging (even in the video I watched after a loss); not a seemingly disconnected and disinterested drone like Kreis was in every interview I've seen. What I like is that he seems to be thinking through his next step as he's talking to the interviewer.

There's just a general "brightness" to him and I hope that energy translates to positive play.

The article is from last week so obviously before the announcement. Interesting discussion of Vieira and the issues facing ex-players with ambitions of coaching/managing. The pathways via acting as an assistant at a big club or acting as head at a smaller club/league have their own pitfalls and numerous failures (plus some successes).
Anway, seems rather fair and balanced, and has possible insight into what CFG and our new coach might have been thinking recently. Don't think it was posted previously.

Contrary to what you may have heard, "I'm delighted to take on the role of manager of City and to work with Claudio Reyna and Rob Vartughian. I can't wait to get started. I'm excited to be given an opportunity like this is such a special city and where football now has a solid fan base," he said.

From the same story where I lifted the quote...

The former Arsenal, Inter and France midfielder will continue to be involved with the youth academy at Manchester City, where he ended his playing career.

Man, next season can't come soon enough. However, these playoffs this year, especially in the west have been AWESOME!!!!! I was hoping Montreal would win because I think Montreal is the best team equipped to beat the redbulls, and god knows I want the redbulls to poop themselves again but those bastards have a good team. I think the only team that can beat the redbulls in redbull arena for the Cup is FC Dallas. Let's one of those three teams takes them out.

Great appointment. Not sure how strong he is on tactics, but you know he has the respect of the players. Right now the most important thing is for our players to believe in their manager.

Ay Dios mío! 9 páginas de comentarios sobre PV solo en este hilo!

Anyway, I think this hiring signals that Man City want to use this club as an avenue to gain experience for some of their youth squad while still fielding a winning team that should compete for MLS cup. Who better than to lead NYCFC down this path than the former head of the EDS (top youth squad) for City?
