There's a lot of social media outcry from a lot of folks, but I don't really see a problem with it. Leicester City supporters should be glad in a sense; Leicester is acting like a big club whose manager was no longer getting results from his team.

The Real Madrid's and Bayern Munich's of the world would do the same thing.

But they're not a big club. If they were in this spot least year he probably wouldn't get fired. He only did because he did so well last season. It's ridiculous that they fired him. Their team is terrible.

It's really kneejerk. They took his best midfielder (oh, and look how well Chelsea is playing with him), and the rest of the team is suffering a sophomore slump/hangover. Even if they drop, they have the roster to pop back up after a year (just as Newcastle is set to do), so get a really good midfielder and 2 other players, and Ranieri could have kept the continuity of leadership.....

They also lost their Football Director (Steve Walsh) to Everton. I haven't followed them closely this season but at least one article I read said that their recruitment, and not just replacement for Kanye, has suffered because of it

Edit: Kante, autocorrect strikes again

If the players make the team a success he doesn't deserve to stay or be released. He's just a jellyfish floating with the teams record. One player is not worth 16 spots in the standings. they massively outperformed last year and are generally under performing this year. I agree with the other post. If they had not done so well, he probably could have seen out the year. I am willing to bet last year's goal was stay above relegation and it would have been the same this year. And as it stands he is still in that range. But alas the bar was set too high. I recall seeing a study that after a sacking a team generally does better, but the reason why was concluded that a team just returns to its mean expectation rather then any improvements in the coaching department/change in tactics (But then who really knows).

The point is they're acting like a big club, because that is their end-game, their goal (excuse the pun). You have to start somewhere.

LCFC getting the new manager score bounce and LFC likely making one particular Forums poster cry (won't tag him as he's probably recording it for later). Man that team showed so much promise and is now flaming out.

Up by a field goal now.

ETA. Back to a safety.

I've never understood why people dump on PRO refs as some special case. If you watch other leagues regularly you see as many crap calls. Right now Swansea and Burnley are tied 1-1. Burnley's goal came on a penalty awarded when a Burnley player committed a clear handball. Refs somehow saw it wrong and called it against Swansea. It's not even close.
PS: I'm still against video review. But this call should get the ref demoted to Championship for a month at least.

Well, that's why MLS is will have VAR in the second half of the season. I think though that since MLS is more a physical league compared to the free flow and open play in England, some of the tackles and fouls that would be called in Europe aren't called so much in the states.

the free flow and open play in England,
Woah. You don't watch much continental ball do you?

Thanks. And thanks for today.

Feeling alright since we are playing a top 6 team today. I look st the schedule and get happy when it's Arsenal, Man City, etc. I cringe when it's shitballs city FC.

Maybe the better phrase is "time on the ball."

To be fair, it's hard to stay on the ball when MLS refs let the sort of stuff slide that they do.

And that, mgarbowski mgarbowski, is my number one complaint about PRO. Big, controversial decisions will always be an issue everywhere. Almost impossible not to be. But calling midfield play more tightly and consistently is something that should be a bigger emphasis in MLS, as I think that's where PRO sucks so hard.

That a valid point, and you're not alone in making it. But most of the complaints about PRO that I see are on the level of "The ref got that obviously wrong. PRO sucks."
I also have little faith in anyone's ability to move the refs to consistently call a game in a way that is counter to the local culture and style of play. Players have more power on the field than refs in that area. That's why baseball can't speed up the game. Rules exist to keep batter's from leaving the box during at-bats and pitchers should take only so long between pitches. But the umps cannot enforce them and do not even try because too many players prefer the slow pace. I also don't think that's just a question of economics and baseball players super high salaries. I think it's inherent to the roles of players and refs.
Finally, to tie various strands together and complete the thread derailing, the judgment call decision that you want to move a certain way and that LionNYC LionNYC cites in support of VAR are one of the very reasons why I think VAR is pointless. Most foul calls are not like this handball. Most foul disputes are such that you can get 5 refs to agree on a verbal description of exactly what happened, yet they would still disagree as to whether it was a red, yellow, foul, deserving of a warning, or nothing. VAR won't change that, and pretending it will is wishcasting.

Hmm. I don't know. I think players adjust their behavior to the latitude given.

As for the replay, I've said I only like it for offside for goal decisions or reviewing dive/pk with the mandatory decision as I described in the thread on it. So I don't think that part was intended for me to respond to anyway. If it is, no problems there. Agree fully.
