Some of the members of the board and I will be hammering out some preliminary plans this evening which will likely develop throughout the week.

As a group we want to make noise not just in the stadium but in the community.

I am looking for charitable organizations in the south Bronx where members of the Third Rail can volunteer their time. Furthermore, I am looking for charitable organizations with close ties to influential people in the south Bronx (i.e. politicians). If anyone has any suggestions or inside information feel free to PM me.

That being said, once the planning stage is over and we form some partnerships and set some dates I will provide anyone and everyone with information on how they can get involved.

If the podcast is a Third Rail podcast: Third Rail Supporters Section.
If it's an NYCFC specific show: Team News, would probably be the best fit.
Once the podcast is live, we can sticky a link so that it can be easily found.

That's just one dimension that we are looking at. Obviously, its a major one at this stage in the game but optimally we want to get behind organizations for a multitude of reasons, not just because of their connections to politicians.

I'm glad. I hope that the choices we make have more to do with the efficacy of the non-profit, specifically in terms of outcomes of the work they do. Political connections should be at the bottom of the list of priorities in my opinion.

Unfortunately, if the stadium doesn't get built it throws the team going concern into doubt. If the team's future is in doubt, then the Third Rail's future goes along with it. And with no Third Rail then there would be no charitable outreach of any kind.

Absolutely, but I think it is a bit vain and pretentious to think that we will be able to have much of an impact on getting a stadium. Obtaining a stadium is going to be between the City and the owners. Sure we can be loud and supportive but at the end of the day we are a group of a few dozen fans. We have no power on either side and most of us don't even reside in the neighborhood to pressure the community board. We can be a positive photo op and we can pressure through numbers and contacts. However, I don't want to conflate our lobbying operations with our charitable operations. The primary goal of our charitable operations is charity and we should ensure that remains the case.

Well, the Third Rail guys responsible for lobbying and I engage in direct conversation, not necessarily to co-mingle our causes, but to align them so that they don't conflict. We are not going to ignore a worthy cause just because it doesn't work for us politically. However, we are not going to ignore a worthy cause because it does work out for us politically, either.

As for the lobbying arm of the Third Rail, I rather not speak on their behalf, but I think it is likely that we will be doing more than just being loud and supportive and being present for photo ops.

SGs are in place before the team's announcement all over the place. Most of them have a USL Pro team or something first, but the fact is that Sons of Ben existed before Philly Union. Terminus Legion and Southern Legion both existed before Atlanta and Miami...

Those SGs either helped get their team to MLS or get a stadium. Every story I read says there's no PPL Park without Sons of Ben.

Since Borough Boys made their stupid decision, we ended up with an SG after the fact, and therefore no momentum for a stadium. Long boring point is this... the SG can definitely influence a stadium politically.

I just hope that the BBs will not be going to become NYCFC fans after the failure of the Cosmos ( or when the failure will be official ) !!! Many among them already were NY Metrostars / NJ Red Bulls fans..............

SoB absolutely helped Philly get a stadium because of what I mentioned previously, they were loud. By loud I don't just mean yelling, I mean they got attention. They were in news, and highly visible advocating for a team. That is where they were key. I do not think they had any effect after the team was granted on whether, or where, a stadium was built. That is work that being highly visible and agitating has limited impact. Terminus Legion took no, or at most a limited, part in getting the team to Atlanta and certainly was not involved in getting a stadium. Same thing for Southern Legion.

My point is that we should be realistic about the impact we can have as a group of fans. We do not have money, nor do we have a constituency, with which we can influence politicians. We can be highly visible and agitate but that will have a limited impact on the back room dealing that will eventually get us a stadium.

We have limited resources, especially at this time, and we need to be very judicious about where those resources are allocated.
 
As far as I know, Terminus Legion was born after the MLS TO ATL movement started. And the group is a lot smaller than they appear. They've got a professional marketing team working for them, albeit a good marketing team, but a marketing team nonetheless.

As for Borough Boys. I've sent out the olive branch before and it will remain out there. Cosmos will fall to the wayside and when they do I'd be more than happy to add BB to our ranks.
