Stadium Discussion

Momentum was meant more along the lines of towards HRY or WP. Not necessarily progress. They’ve been working Moya and the mayors office hard the last several months and even Hochul.

Hope to have more than that to share in the near future

I hear you. But that means the words from Soriano about an announcement were bullshit. Again.

At this point, momentum has to come before progress has to come before an announcement has to come before shovels in the ground.

Not getting 18 in the Bronx in the rain on 5 days location notice.

I’m fine either way on a new stadium as long as armark does the food. Queens gets much better staff too.
I also think we’ll really expand the fan base if we’re playing in Queens full time. Most notably, I think we’re all really overlooking our Chinese friends next door to WP where soccer is the 2nd highest rated sport in the country behind basketball. I know we all hate pandering with the roster, but I’m curious if we signed someone like Lei Wu to our roster while playing in queens if we’d see a change in attendance.

Hypothetical question: Would you rather someone with inside knowledge revealed that they had exciting and wonderful stadium news but were not able to share any details until the public announcement before the end of the year... or not being told that and spared the deliciously agonizing curiosity?

I think that choice was just made. Hypothetically, of course.
Good to know. Hypothetically.

At this point don't tell me anything until it's a public announcement. We have 1k pages of posts here of "insider knowledge" that hasn't panned out to this point. I do however LOVE LOVE LOVE in depth reporting & research done by several like Soup, it's fun to read & also super informative, give me more of that! lol

The question really is, do you want someone to come out and say "Hey, I know someone working on this and they think it's a 90% likelihood of Queens based on their information" or should they just stay quiet because it's nothing concrete?

Hypothetically, that would at least give us a definitive end date. I’d take that over open ended wondering.

Every time I read “end of the year” it reminds me of my former CEO who kept on pushing off a project he promised my team when we joined. He said “well I told you end of the year but I never told you what year. “. What an ass

Interesting statement being made by the club that the official watch party on Sunday is in Forest Hills…
I'm always hesitant to read the tea leaves, but that is interesting. Very interesting indeed.

From the outside, the blowup of the GAL deal sure looked like a double-cross by the Yankees, whether it actually was or not. But if the Mothership thinks it was a double-cross and their investment is being, shall we say, insufficiently supported by their junior partner, it might not matter whether it was a double-cross or not. They may be ready to make a move regardess.

[Full disclosure: I've had my eye on that plot across Seaver Way from Citi Field for years, and always thought Willets Point was the way to go. So, I may just be wishcasting a bit.]

Willets was always the best spot. Always. For many reasons. Flushing Meadows Corona Park already has Citi Field, the USTA, tons of youth and amateur fields and courts, museums, festivals, etc. it’s already a sports and entertainment hub. It’s got subway and LIRR stations. It’s basically the epicenter of NYC soccer already. It’s international. And Willets is not parkland, so you avoid that hornets nest.

It was also where the team was originally announced and the original location targeted for the team before it was even founded.

Here’s a pre Seth image from a Gothamist article form 2012 (not sure they got the scale correct, but love the old school logo):

A great quote from that article: "The world's game should be played in the world's park"
There’s also a nostalgic reference to Pier 40. Can’t believe that was all over a decade ago…. Would anyone believe we were once all young men? (Or Shwafta was a child 😂). Life is a circle.

Yup I remember well, but Willets is even better than that original site because it isn’t part of the park land. That one was going to get sticky for both engineering and community relations/NIMBY reasons.

And Moya was pushing for it back then too.
