Damn, Magnus... that got me all juiced up. I really hope the city, GAL, and CFG can all come together and get this done.
Having said that, one does have to wonder the amount of impact on the design for a state-of-the-art stadium NYCFC and fans deserve. What do you guys think? Is the area too small or it is enough?

Whoever does the stadium, I hope to hell it isn't the same people who designed Citi Field.
Can't believe in this day and age (not to mention the million$ $pent), they couldn't design a stadium without obstructed views. Yankee Stadium has its flaws as does Giants Stadium.
Hire the guys who did Red Bull Arena.

I think every stadium has obstructed views. It's just up to the ownership to decide if they want to put a seat there.
That was my point - it *is* a nice place to live despite - or perhaps in part because of - not necessarily being a place with a lot to attract outside visitors.

If I remember correctly, the area a stadium might go is in the parking lot of citi field to the north/west of the stadium. I think it is where the circus set up some years.
The original Flushing plan was to build it where the lake and fountain from the World's Fair are located. That was rejected since it's in the middle of a lot of green space and the NIMBYs cried foul.
The current plan, as Rand mentioned, is to put it in the parking lots near Shea. The Wilpons would then use a fee we would pay for that to subsidize their Willets Point development.

For a time there was a possibility that Willets West would be a viable site - that land is Parks Department property, and there's a section of the city Administrative Code stating that it can only be used for a public purpose, such as a stadium. It'll be interesting to see what happens now.

Right. Willets West on that map was going to be a mall. the Wilpons would build it and control it and use the proceeds from it to subsidize the Willets Point housing development on the other side of CitiField. The problem is that's park land, and state law does not allow commercial development on park land. Apparently a stadium is okay (e.g. CitiField and the tennis center). This has led to speculation that we would build a stadium there and pay related fees that would subsidize Willets Point instead.
The whole area is a vast, flat plain of parking lots. It's really under utilized when you consider that parking garages with 3-4 levels could do the job in a fraction of the space.
