This . Changing the venue after signup is disingenuous and underhanded. There is zero chance this was not in the works before they announced the renewal period. If there was any chance of splitting the season, wait for the renewal until after that’s announced.

If true, Brad Sims is proving to be an underhanded & sleazy corporate executive.
Personally, if they at least offer pro-rata refunds for Citi Field games, I don't see this as all that big of a deal.

I wonder if the split would be something like US Open Cup/Champions League at Citi, MLS games at Yankee Stadium. Seems like the biggest issue for the club is finding more games to add to the home schedule, and I don't think St. Johns or Columbia would be good enough for Champions League.

The other question I have is whether this has anything to do with a stadium proposal in Queens. Is this the start of the team moving from the Bronx to Queens full-time, or just a way to improve the schedule for next season and improve attendance? Is this a long-term thing, or a short term solution to the awful home schedule we had this season?

Lots of questions, I'm sure we'll get answers to none of these questions if this rumor is true.
If we're doing this, we gotta play some MLS games at Citi. We cant have as bad of a home schedule again, and the easiest way to improve things is to give us more flexibility

i guess. i don't know who he is or if he's a reliable source. but not knowing who he is - sounds like an answer that attempts to build credibility (people inside the club) while not committing to anything.

if he's a known credible source then i take it all back :)
Sometimes you have to respect the fact that someone does not have a history of making shit up.
Also should acknowledge that his uncertainty is coming from the sources. If a club as opaque as ours is floating rumors it could very well be because they want to check the reaction before they decide. That doesn’t reflect poorly on him at all.

I actually think it's a good idea, and I would be in favor of it. Our attendance was down over 10% this year, and that's probably due in large part to so many weeknight games. If Citi Field will allow more weekend games (and more options for CCL and US Open Cup games), then I am all in favor.

Now, I know that it is less convenient for some, and I know the seat selection issues will not be easy. Hopefully, with the experience of this playoff game, and a full off season to implement, they will find a system that works a lot better.

Remember, this has the potential to increase attendance, improve the game day atmosphere and help secondary ticket sales. Why not give it a try?

I just don't understand why they would announce this on Wednesday when there's a playoff game to be played - if they're expecting cheers, they're going to be disappointed

exactly. Distraction. Imagine “hey, we’re going to play more games at Citi next year!!” and then NYCFC goes out and lays an egg there. Tone deaf.

if this is the case, wait until the season is over (whenever that is) and then announce it. Like waiting the potential 2ish weeks to Nov 11th (if needed) would make a big difference.

If they do this (and I'm guessing no but have no idea really) it would make more sense to announce Thursday. Optimistically from their perspective that's the day after a win and a good fan experience both at Citi Field.

Also, if they do it, they could move just 4 maybe 5 games and get the schedule flexibility they would be going for. This year we had 7 Wednesday or Thursday games. Get that down to 2 or 3 by moving 4-5 to Citi and the schedule is much better for both fans and the team with limited disruption. It might even be possible to just move 3 and still just have 3 midweek games because the schedule will be less compressed after this transition year.

Yeah, I’d definitely prefer a few weekends in Queens to weeknights in the Bronx. Better for everyone, I think, in the long run

Goes back to who I am sitting with. Half the fun is being with your soccer family. I’m ok with this if the organization needs to do it for rest for the squad. Especially with the Cup games.

I actually prefer midweek games for my family. Easier for our schedule.

I hope they are splitting the season as a test for Willets point!!!

I am living in Stamford CT at the moment and I don't have a desire to schlep over to YS or CF, but I will make a point to sell my bronx games and "attend" the queens games even if all I do is check in at the turnstiles for the less desirable games then go visit family/friends...... trying to send a message to build the stadium in queens..... LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Unlike the person who tweeted something similar on Sunday, Nick does have a history of tweeting out stuff that had no basis in reality.* But I also get the sense he has improved his sourcing and BS meter.

* I never thought he made things up, but I do think he had poor judgment of whether something somebody told him was plausibly true and deserved repeating.

potentially reduce the mid week games to 2? doesnt seem too bad, maybe additional CCL games to bring the games number up.
