1010 just had a report on the new Willets point. Thousand apartments, school & retail. They will discuss what do with the other 17 acres known as the iron triangle because they said no to a mega mall. First time I heard it on the radio. Everybody should be flooding the local government about the stadium.

ETA: The more I think about it the more I think it was going to be a mall or stadium. The mayors office publicly saying they will not use that acreage for a mall is very telling. I think we got the initial greenlight.

View attachment 8169 The area highlighted in green is about 12.5 acres or so. Still plenty of room for further development. Close enough to use Citi Field parking and public transportation. This area would truly become the center of sports in NYC.

this was probably mentioned, but ill be honest i dont read this thread as closely as i probably should. But if this is the area, what happens to all those businesses that are in the green square.

Isn't the entire Iron Triangle falling under eminent domain? I mean, they're not going to build a new neighborhood around decrepit auto body shops.

im not sure of the logistics thats why im asking but Amway isnt a decrepit auto and a large company. And im sure Evergreen recycling is a lucrative business (I have no idea, but if i had to guess).

Most have already been bought out and closed down by the NYCEDC. The other are all looking to sell. I represented one of the scrapyards for a while. Whomever is left is actually pissed off that those who sold didn't hold out together for a higher price in one shot. Now the holdovers are just waiting to be approached to sell and move on as well. Most the owners are up there in age and looking to retire. It's the sub-lessors who rent a small garage on an owner's property that are going to have to figure out where to move their business. But they have always been on month-month leases, so they had to expect it was an eventuality.

What about places like amway... isnt that a fairly new facility?

If I'm not mistaken, that's actually located within the Citi Field complex. Not in the iron triangle. Maybe our stadium has the same concept and is also mixed-use with both retail and office within the stadium structure. Who wants to move their office into Ethiad Point?

So to confirm. They plan on having everything the city wants on 6 acres and 17 acres TBD (for a stadium)? The entire Iron Triangle is 23 acres?

Everything to the right of Citi Field is/will be owned by the city. There isn't going to be anything left over in the Iron Triangle post redevelopment?

The area between Roosevelt Ave / 126th Street / Northern Blvd / Van Wyck is approximately 70 acres.
