Swiss Attorney General Opens Criminal Processdings Against Sepp Blatter

Swiss officials? I don't trust justice if it's not laid down by the US.

hmmm i was skeptical that bringing blatter down would help the game since i felt platini would somehow take over and would be more of the same or worse a much more euro centered FIFA as it was before blatter.

but him also being mentioned here now im intrigued to see what happens here

In fairness, when they actually start to prosecute, Swiss officials tend to get their man. They are happy to let a lot go by them in the interests of protecting their banking interests, but when they are pushed to act they make sure to get their man.

Also, don't forget that Blatter himself is Swiss, so if convicted there's no risk of him appealing to be sent back to his country of birth, where he may be released earlier.

Per a FIFA statement, Blatter "is not allowed to represent FIFA in any capacity, act on the organization’s behalf, or communicate to media or other stakeholders as a FIFA representative" during the course of the ban.

I thought Blatter was actually good and its just the FIFA Executives are all corrupt and take bribes. Blatter wanted an World Cup in the USA in 2026.

How can the head of an organization be good if those he's supposedly leading and in charge of are corrupt scoundrels?

Oh you poor person.

No, seriously though. Blatter was the cause of the high levels of corruption in the fifa executive. He encouraged a corporate environment where excessive hospitality led to preferment, which over the course of several decades eventually created a situation where he could offer direct bribes to stay in power and the whole thing got worse from there. Trust me, he is as guilty as anyone, and probably ten times more so.

who is in charge of this committee? im surprised they actually at least suspended him for 8 years. platini was the one that truly shocked me. blatter to me already had a lot of stuff pointing to him being guilty.
