Third Rail : A Plastic Supporter Group ?

Ignore the tone of that previous post. That should have never made it to the board. I also believe that fair intelligent discourse is preferable to hit and run mudslinging.

Back to the conversation.
From what I have seen the supporters of some of the MLS teams do travel pretty well. I'm not talking thousands except on the rare occasion but rather a couple of busloads. NE packed their section last week and when I have been at Red Bull Arena in the past they have sported a full section of visitors. Obviously due to cost and time the cross country match ups don't see as many people traveling.

new england isnt a 4 hour plane ride, 800$ trip to new york...

I would hate to generalize about other teams' supporter groups (so I won't), but seems to me that many of our supporters will have the mix of the usual city hustle-and-bustle, jobs, families, school, other responsibilities, etc. which may make full time support on the road (especially cross-country) not as readily appropriate for as many folks as it may be for some other teams domestically and internationally. I would love to check out some games on the road, but will probably only be able to do so intermittently as life allows.

I never claimed that there is ZERO away support in MLS. My point is that American SGs don't travel to away games like European SGs do. There is no comparison.

Starting to grasp why so few away fans now with cost and distance,so what sort of numbers will go to red bulls then ?

For the closer away venues, DC, Philly, New England, REd Bull has historically travelled with between 200-300. I've gone to Philly 3 X and NE once when supporting RB and it was multiple buses.

red bull, new england, philly, maybe even DC and columbus are probably gonna have the most of our away fans at the games. they're within driving distance for a few charter buses

Red Bulls is close and accessible by mass transit and car, I'd expect up to 2,000
Showing my ignorance again how far are red bulls and NYC apart?and how does ticketing work in mls in the EPL the away fans are givern a set allocation of tickets usually between 2500 and 4000 for EPL games and anything up to 7000 ish for fa cup games.will both sets of fans sit together v red bulls or will police and stewards keep you apart ?

I think Fabio just needs to realize that American SGs don't go to away games. It's just part of the culture here.
This is what you wrote so this is what I responded to.

Agreed, the groups here don't travel in as large of numbers except for special games (MLS Cup etc.)

RB Arena is literally right over the river from Manhattan. Closer than some areas of NYC.

We don't have police keeping us apart, but away fans are assigned a specific section in most stadiums from what I understand. At the NYCFC home opener, the Rev fans had a section all to themselves, but no police around them from what I've seen. We're pretty civil over here. In every other major American sport there is no separation like this. Away fans are mixed in with home fans.

Similar set up here. Allocation is usually up to 500 but I've heard we will get 1,200 for Red Bull. Security is posted by the Away support. Although you can purchase a ticket in general seating of the home crowd if one is available. Yankee Stadium & Red Bull Arena are 20 or so miles apart.

I know that Red Bull supporters are escorted in and out of the stadiums when they visit other teams. Typically they have to walk in 30 minutes early and leave 30 minutes after the final whistle unless the crowd is moving quickly. If I remember correctly Philadelphia doesn't let them roam the concourse either. Away support is only allowed to buy concessions at the stands next to their section.

Totally different here tho it is getting better than it was in the 80s .the home club is responsible for all policing in and around the ground.if you let the fans mix in the stadium you would pretty much have a riot on your hands most matches.you are not usually allowed to buy a ticket in other areas of the ground as usually you need to be a member of that club or they will refuse to sell you one when they see your zip code

Wow really? Did not know this.

I saw a few Revs fans walking around YS, not sure if they we're limited as well. I would never want it to get to a point where away fans feel threatened at Yankee Stadium.

Its down to the police to gauge the vibe at each game you can easily be locked in 40 mins plus after a game,if they think there will be trouble

I'm in 225, which is right next to where they are at 226. They definitely all came at the same time, although I'm not sure if that was because the club made them or because they met up by themselves or what not. Their section was filled before any of the others near us, though. And from what I saw they had free roam of Yankee Stadium. There were chants back and forth (a lot of people yelling that Boston sucks or Ny sucks) but I didn't see one bit of hostility between either groups of fans, which is great.

Yeah, same shit happens at the San Paolo with Napoli. They're all nuts over there. Serie A should model themselves after the EPL in terms of safety and atmosphere. I'd never take my kid to a Napoli game, but I'd feel safe taking him to an EPL game.
