U.S. Open Cup 2019

Wow, the Midwest is terrible.

Looks like we're officially meeting Orlando on 7/10.

FCC and St Louis is still knotted at 0-0 in the 83'

St. Louis scores a last minute stoppage time goal off a corner! 2 USL teams in the quarters. But, also means easy pickings for Atlanta at home. Updated bracket:

Given New Mexico's run so far, I wouldn't bet against them beating Minnesota. It would be great to have a USL team make it as far as the Semis.

Only to become banta fodder for whomever comes out of the West.

Quarterfinals are all set. I'm picking Minnesota, LAFC, NYCFC, and Atlanta in the Semis. At least for 3 brackets, this could be the strongest USOC semis since I can remember. And the final may even be a preview of the MLS Cup. (has that ever happened?)

It's Orlando vs. Atlanta tonight in the semifinal.

I'll be rooting hard for Atlanta to win. Because, if they win the whole thing (or LAFC), then there will be another spot open for Concacaf Champions League.

If there is any team which qualifies through multiple berths, or if there is any Canada-based MLS team which are champions of the MLS Cup, the Supporters' Shield, or conference regular season, the vacated berth is reallocated to the U.S.-based team with the best MLS regular season record not yet qualified.

LAFC can’t win USOC. Why does ATL open another spot? Unless you think they have the best shot to win MLS Cup or East, so it’s a better possibility.

I think the point is that as to Atlanta or Orlando, the 2 teams on offer tonight, Atlanta has a reasonable shot at winning the East and/or the MLS Cup, while Orlando does not.

I thought the same thing initially when reading that post, but when he says “the whole thing”, he’s referring to MLS Cup and not the US Open Cup.

Wording is confusing since “the whole thing” does appear to be related to the US Open Cup as the subject.

Hmm, let me clarify...by "the whole thing" I meant winning the U.S. Open Cup.

Allocation for CCL for 2020 and beyond (pending a rules change are): MLS Cup, US Open Cup, Supporters' Shield, Winner of Non-SS Winners' Conference

LAFC will certainly win the Western Conference (and likely the Supporters' Shield). If they win SS + USOC, then a spot becomes open for CCL based on MLS league points. Hopefully that's us.

If Atlanta wins the Eastern Conference + USOC (and LAFC win the SS), then a spot becomes open for CCL based on MLS. Hopefully that's us too.

EDIT: Wow, I thought LAFC were in the US Open Cup still. It's Portland vs. Minnesota in the West. Atlanta need to win the whole thing. LAFC added unnecessary confusion.

That’s what I was saying. LAFC is out.

I don’t think either POR or MIN has a significantly greater chance of winning MLS Cup, so don’t care.

I agree that ATL is better for us if they win the USOC. Allows us to finish 3rd in SS and get in if they win the east or MLS Cup. (Remember, CCL spot doesn’t just go to 2nd in East if duplicate. It goes to next in line in SS standings who didn’t already qualify. We’re in 10th! But we have multiple games in hand on everyone.)
