Soccer in a baseball stadium? C'mon
Randomly put on a USL match and they said the Cosmos will play starting in 2026 in Paterson, NJ. That's all I know.
Just got back from an RIFC-Detroit City match at RIFC. Nice new stadium, mostly, but kept thinking about all the MLS bashers and pro-rel deadenders who are always on about how superior USL is. Sure, there are some things that are more interesting (the kits aren’t all templated adidas clones and occasionally they pick off an MLS club in The USOC — like us) but OMG the atmosphere was “nice family night out at the movies” and the play standard was atrocious, which was especially stark after watching our Toluca match. The USL standard was like that Simpsons parody. Boring and painful. Was hoping that with a lot of Providence time in my near future I’d be doing this a lot, but nope.
I hear a number of fellow “small-r” revfugees have adopted RIFC but I don’t think I could do it.
P.s. all the more reason our loss to Pittsburgh should be absolutely mortifying.
P.p.s. Oh, and their regional food/drink nods were pretty good. RI-style hot wieners and the only Super Bock I’ve ever seen in the USA. But lord that match. Oof.
I was at their game last night -- they led 1-0, then allowed the next 3 goals. All before halftime. Defense is a myth, but at least the games are entertaining.
shame, they seem to really try embrace their community in westchester, hope the bad results dont push fans away.
for USL league one that's not bad. i wonder if they will try and make a rivalry with cosmos next year. They had just shy of 3,000 there last night. At least so far the results haven't impacted the support.
They're getting tormented and run off by South Georgia Tormenta tonight. Niall Reid-Stephen just scored a stellar left-footed goal at 46' to make it 3-1 (he has a brace already).
