USMNT Talk

Johnson, arguably the 2nd best player in the US player pool isn't chosen. Bruce is just a caretaker to get us to the World Cup. The minute we qualify, sack him, and bring in someone for the future.

I honestly considered paying a lot of money to travel to Russia to see the USMNT there. Under Bruce, it's not worth it.

There are at least 4 non-GK players that have no business being on the squad: Zusi, Zardes, Bedoya, and Wondo. There are three GKers on the squad that have no business being there. There are probably a bunch of players called in that should play but have no time to gel so they’re practically useless. Arena will go with the same tired lineup and we’re going to get torched.

Is that sensible? I know that national team management is totally different to club management but surely it's reckless letting a new national team manager have barely a couple of games to get used to their side and expect effective performances. There's a reason that Football Associations generally appoint managers to manage in two-year cycles, so that they get the entirety of qualification to learn their side before it truly counts.

I think he's just expressing frustration (that I share) over Arena's backwards thinking as exhibited by his roster selection and tactics.

Zardes injury and he's withdrawing from the squad. Addition by subtraction, now Arena can't play him.

Saw and ad during American football looks like a piece on Pullisic on 60 minutes tonight in case anyone cares
Saw it WOW !!! I had heard a little about him But Holy Shit Why The Hell Don't We Have This Boy Wonder??? DAMN NYCFC Come on now use some of that Yankee Capital and buy this Boy !!

Would a 19 year old Andrea Pirlo want to play in the US rather than the largest stage in Europe?
He was at home being bummed around at 19 them his Beloved Inter Milan screwed the shit out of him like i would have but in a Good Way ! But the point is He Was Home !! We here in the US Need To Do all we can to keep our boy's home so that this Damn MLS can rise above all it's Problems . I sure hope in my life time i see Soccer moves up the ladder of the sports food chain !!! But stupidly letting our boy's leave our shores insures this game to stay where it is .

I'v always said and will continue to say Americans want Americans . We want our boy's next door or even bad boy's with their American lives and their American Stories . Red White and Blue boy's to promote Soccer in a American way . Or Fuck us for life we'll just stay the same with all our dependency on foreign players to legitimize this Damn League !!

I haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere, but the team called up this week is devoid of players raised overseas. There are no U.S. - German dual nationals, for example. No Johnson, Brooks, Chandler or Jones. Also no Johannsson or Carter-Vickers.

The closest you come is Darlington Nagbe, who settled in the U.S. at age 11.

It would be easy to make too much of this - especially given all the comments around it a year ago. I don't think this reflects an intentional approach by Arena. The only surprise omission is Johnson, and his form has not been strong for Club or Country.

Still it is interesting to note that our country will rise or fall this weekend on the backs of a group of players mostly born in and entirely raised in America, which means their formative years were spent developing soccer skills in the states. It will be interesting to see if a group developed in America can get the job done.

Brooks would almost certainly be there if he were healthy.

Ha! Another example of a dual national not on the team - and deservedly so, although he does seem to be playing well and getting things on the right track.

his team is mid table...dont know how well is he actually playing

He's been pretty decent... 4 foals in 12 games, 3 assists.. not horrible

5 goals actually. I haven't seen the games, but the reports have been good. He will need to carry that to another league to get back on track, but it's a start.

Not sure if still the case, but he was the team’s top rated player for the first half of the season, and I don’t think his rating have dropped off.

His 5th goal, while unremarkable, backPost tap in off a keepers save, was exactly what you want from a ghosting wide player away from the buildup.

I'm so over Bruce Arena, I really can't describe it.

Timmy Chandler has been one of the best right wingbacks in the Bundesliga for almost 2 years now, and we have Graham Zusi in the roster.

GRAHAM ZUSI. SERIOUSLY.

I hope we qualify, get rid of Bruce and Sunil and take no one over 27 to the World Cup except Deuce. Dare to dream.
