USMNT Talk

The home games this window are going to streamed on ESPN+ (unless they are treated like NYCFC games and subject to a blackout in the USA)

They're on ESPN2 and ESPN+. ESPN/ESPN2 (cable channel) events are on ESPN+ for me since I'm also logged into my cable subscription. I don't know if that will be the same policy for these matches.

I would be both surprised and unsurprised if they are blacked out.

I just have ESPN+. A lot of US Open matches which were on ESPN2 were also streamed on ESPN+ for the first time and it looks like that is carrying over to other events. I suspect they are feeling competition from Paramount

Solid match! Thanks Dan for bringing on the chat, would have hoped more people showed up but i guess it was quite last minute. Hopefully we can do it again for the next game with more notice to get a nice crowd!

Live chat tonight? Not sure about the match.. almost don’t want to watch. I actually think we might even lose this one.
Only saying this cause I’ve been optimistic if not confident every game and we’ve played like shit. Maybe we’ll dominate now.

I'm around, so you can put it on if you want... last time not many people showed up to the chat... Up to you! hah.

4-3-3, the lineup looks good. I think we'll win it

I had the same reaction to the early goal as almost everyone else - horrible howler by Steffan. After rewatching a few times, it's more complicated than that. The Costa Rican forward was on side, and Steffan had to respect his ability to tap in for the goal. While Steffan should have done better, this was all set up by our old friend Ronald Matarritta roasting Dest on a run to the end line, which simultaneously took Dest beyond the end line (leaving everyone on side) and allowed Mata to put in a terrific cross. The defense was all out of shape because of the earlier play where Steffan tried to clear.

In the end a collective failure.

There was also this fun exchange on Twitter after the Costa Rica goal and continuing to Dest’s goal for the USA.

Overall, I thought we were terrific last night - aside from the first minute cluster fuck.

We had a lot more energy and moved the ball around extremely well. We did a great job playing through them out of the back. And, when attacking against their low block, we were able to break them down and create chances. Not easy to do.

We’ve now had 2 of these 3-game international windows, and we were dominant in the 3rd game of each. I think that’s a testament to the depth of our squad.

The errant pass leading to a Bryan Ruiz breakaway only to lose his legs and be overtaken by Miles Robinson is a troubling sign. Any other forward in Concacaf gets an obvious goal scoring opportunity from that.

Steffen had a eh, decent game overall. I'll also grant he seems a bit more more composed and determined than Turner in distribution, though he wasn't flawless there either. But making this change, in Columbus, after conceding just 3 goals in 5 games (the most recent an own goal off a corner) reeks of playing Chris Wingert on his birthday, as Lion noted in the chat last night.

Also both were set up as must wins (as much as they could be given it was the 1st and 2nd window) and the team responded well to the pressure. Last night's response even more so given the cluster show start and youth of the squad.
