My team team for the copa America 3-5-2

2018 World Cup
4-4-2 diamond
Altidore-Morris
Pulisic
Green-Zelalem
Mix
Johnson-brooks-carter vickers-Yedlin
Hamid

Where's Wood? And isn't Johannsson like one of the top five players in terms of talent?

I've been giving some thought on how we can improve the midfield, which is perhaps the biggest weak point of the team right now. I think the best option is to move Fabian Johnson and Geoff Cameron into the midfield and rely on other players to hold down the back.

We need a new center mid to partner with Michael Bradley as Jones and Beckerman age. Cameron has been starting there for Stoke the past couple of months (prior to his injury). Having Geoff in mid would give cover to Bradley as he moves forward. Cameron will only be 31 at the time of the next World Cup.

Similarly, Fabian Johnson plays primarily at LM for Borussia Mönchengladbach, and he's been killing it there lately. We don't have anyone else established enough at that position to justify moving Fabian back to defense.

So, if those two move up, who plays in back? Johnson has been used at RB, but with Yedlin getting good time in England, it seems time to let him lock down that position. Cameron has been used in the middle, but we have John Brooks who can team with someone like Gonzalez, Besler, Alvarado or whomever else is in good form - also Miazga in another year or so. That leaves LB, which is always a question, but there are several serviceable candidates in Ream, Beasley or Villafana - maybe even Lichaj. The best argument for playing Johnson in back might be at LB, but I still think better to have him in midfield.

Starting lineup...

[Dempsey] - [Altidore/Johannsson/Morris]
[F. Johnson] - [Bradley] - [Cameron] - [Bedoya]
[Villafana/Ream/Beasley] - [Brooks] - [Gonzalez/Besler] - [Yedlin]
[Howard/Guzan]
Get ready to flame away, but the way the U.S. Midfield improves is by benching Bradley. He's too one-dimensional with the players he meshes with and the team is more dynamic with guys like Mix and Nagbe.

Bradley reminds me of another MB - Michael Ballack. The guy was a solid MF but with everything having to go through him the teams play was predictable and stagnant. Same with the U.S. Once Ballack was replaced, on both the National team and Chelsea, the ball played more fluidly.

Thats kind of crazy. Bradley has proven himself to be an incredible midfielder. I love Mix, but I would never replace Bradley with Mix. MB does the dirty work, can dribble and pass through top international midfields, vision in the attacking end. I'd say jozy has done more to kill MBs rep that anyone, how many of his beautiful passes died on Jozy's concrete feet? I'll remind you of Bradley perfect chip to Fabian Johnson prior to WC. No other American hits that pass, and Bradley does it all the time.

We're going to have to disagree on this. A person can be a great player and immensely technically gifted while also not being a good fit on a team. Bradley can hit all of the passes, but his problem is that he doesn't gel well with the other players on the team - they never seem in sync. I stand by my Ballack comparison.

I think this does more to damn the other players, coaches, and system than it does to damn MB. If the team only runs through MB then others have to step up to demand the ball - on the field and with the coaches.

Woods and Johanssen would be considered at the forward spot. Right now I have Morris potential and hopefully an inform Altidore ahead of them.

As far as mid field. If we go 5 wide and have a playmaker at CAM. It will allow MB to serve a purpose even as he ages. I had trouble leaving Nagbe off my predictions.

Midfield is going to be stacked in the coming years with:
MB
Mix
Nagbe
Pulisic
Zelalem
Green
Hyndman
Bedoya
Zardes

Not to mention Johnson, Yedlin, and Cameron being able to play either D or mid.

New Crest is out:

It's very USA basketball olympic jersey. I don't think its iconic or a long lasting crest. The typeface on the crest isn't amazing either. It doesn't indicate US Soccer either. It could be skiing or boxing.

I'm not loving the font on USA. "USA" over vertical red/white stripes is neither inspired nor bad.
I'm missing the stars. I know why they were an issue, but I sort of want to say "We're the USA. We have stars on our flag, and also here. Don't tell me what a star has to mean."

For some reason, I think boxing while looking at it.

I've heard/read a lot about how the new crest was inspired by the very popular centennial crest, but it seems more of a modern take on the USSF crest from the 1950s to me.

btw, I like it a lot.

All supporting members of US Soccer received this package today, with a Google 3D viewer to watch a video that had a code to unlock a padlock to open the box and get the scarf.
Really.
The scarf is made with the crest too close to the center so it lacks the length to get around my neck and form the crest.
Still, a nice surprise. They also completely revamped their membership program. Annual dues are $55 and Status is earned by attending matches and/or consecutive years of membership. All existing paid members get Silver status. You want to support US Soccer?

What about that crazy membership that cost $10,000 annually? What happened to that?

Some people have complained about the generic nature of the new logo, but thats what i think US soccer wanted, have a logo that can be worn at any time by anyone.

Some have also mentioned that they would prefer something soccer related on it as a way to rep the sport and i would agree with that.

Overall though i don't mind it.

They've split that into a separate Development Fund. Basic member benefits like ticket priority are based on Blue/Red/Silver/Gold Status, which like I said is based on game attendance and years of membership. Donating $500 or higher, puts you into Circles with extra benefits like field access to warm-ups, etc. Lowest Circle is $500, which also gets you Gold Status, and highest Circle is $10k.
