USMNT Talk

I'm not surprised there are so many misinformed individuals in this country.... hell, many of them are probably the pro-reg crowd.....

im not so sure.... the pro rel guys hate anyone involved with MLS

I love how the USA narrative goes from, "We're Doomed! The sky is falling! Fire Klinsman! Fire Gulati!" To, "We're into the World Cup! That loss on Friday was was just a fluke! Dos a Cero! F*ck Mexico!" After one victory over a lackluster Guatemalan side that never looked like it was in the game.

Other Observations/thoughts:
  • USA was pressing high up the field to great affect. It disrupted Guatemala's rhythm and prevented them from getting anything going from the back.
  • Everyone started in a position they were comfortable with. Yedlin was a prime example of this. He looked much more comfortable in his natural RB as opposed to wherever the hell Klinsman played him in Guatemala.
  • The old guard was back for another fight (when it mattered most) The players looked much more comfortable around one another on the field. It seemed to allow them to play freer and take more risks which lead to 4 goals.
  • Why are USA we cap tying Pulisic now? Is he going to be another Julian Green and go incognito after playing a few games for the USA?
  • Why couldn't USA have played with the same style of play in Guatemala as they did last night in Columbus?
U-23 Comment:
Why the hell were there more Colombian fans than American fans at the U-23 game? At one point the commentators on ESPN2 said that the crowd was roughly 60-40 in favor of Colombia. Other than the section of American Outlaws I saw a whole lot more people rooting for Colombia in yellow. It's disgustingly disgraceful that the USA can't even get home field advantage while playing in the USA!!

They need to put this game in a better place. I absolutely hate when they play the USA-Mexico game in Texas or Southern California. Needs to be in Portland/Seattle/St Louis/Columbus, etc.

It doesn't matter where you play a game against Mexico. There will literally always be fans in green at the game.

Did you see the amount of Mexican fans in the crowd in Vancouver? The game was played thousands of miles from the US-Mexico border and there were thousands upon thousands of fans wearing the iconic green of El Tri.

What do you guys think of the players taking shots at Abby. Some say it's uncalled for but I think she brought it all upon herself. Not that I agree but when she made the decision to call out USMNT players she shouldn't be surprised to see some of them use this opportunity to get back at her.

You're Abby Wambach in Portland of all places, soccer capital of the US. You can get a ride back home. With public transport, taxis, Uber, Lyft, probably knowing a few people in Portland that can pick you up or the people with you, DUI is the easiest thing to avoid.

Issue is that when you're drunk you make dumb choices.

Abby was wrong but they didnt have to be pricks and say those snarky remarks. They should worry about not being so rubbish and actually doing something internationally for once .

I was just talking about this earlier with some friends of mine.
Here's my opinion on it: 1st off Bedoya, while it was unadvised and quite frankly lacked decorum to tweet his comments, I understand and agree that he has the RIGHT to reply to that with Abby's own comments even thought I still think he shouldn't have done it. Jozy on the other hand is an idiot. Not only did he bring up a Hope Solo situation which is not at all relevant to Abby's DUI but he also implied it as a joke which if you read Bedoya's TL, Ale was upset that people were seeing this incident and DUIs in general as a joke which was offensive because a good friend of his almost died. But disregarding all that, both comments were unnecessary and just shine the spotlight on the gap between USMNT and USWNT (even more cause of the wage gap situation currently). The logan is One Nation One Team yet that couldn't be farther from the truth.

expected considering abby's comments that practically offended and attacked jozy's and bedoyas teammates. was it right? maybe not but it part of the sad vicious cycle this will produce.

like i said on twitter....these are trying times for the USSF

I wonder if there is also some ill will on the part of the men for how the pay equity issue has been framed by some of the women and some of their supporters. I think the male players would generally support equal pay (I do), but some of the arguments have been insulting to the men's team. When the players see statements like "women win the championships and men get the pay" or "the men's team has been mediocre, while the women have brought the country to a standstill", it has to be off putting. Throwing shade on the men is not only wrong, but strategically clumsy. They could be a very strong ally for the women, but they aren't going to feel like sticking their necks out for someone who is hacking at them.

Bedoya frequently tweets dumb shit then acts shocked when it predictably is criticized. Many of these guys are not brain surgeons, and Bedoya, Jozy and Wambach are not in the upper ranks of the brain department.

It's kind of like that Seinfeld episode when George's colleague used the "the ocean called, and they're running out of shrimp line" and George was just hoping for the opportunity to use the "the jerk store called" line. Not only did the opportunity present itself, but it turned out even better when he was able to use the "I had sex with your wife" line.

AW pissed off a lot of people on the way out, and there was no doubt one or more of the offended parties would jump on the opportunity to return the favor.

Getting back to something that matters, the next games for the National Team are going to be the Copa America (including two tuneups).

What is your preferred lineup. I took a shot at things below.

A few things to note.

1. I am not married to the 4-4-2 diamond, but that seems the most likely.
2. I'd really like to see Cameron get a shot in defensive midfield. He's getting most of the time playing there with his club, and we should have the players available in central defense to free him up to play there.
3. I'd also like to see Fabian Johnson in midfield as well. Again, that's where he is playing with his club, and he's playing great. The only other place to put him would be LB, which remains the eternal problem.
4. Speaking of which, I put Beasley here out of a lack of other options. Maybe Tim Ream? Not sure who else.

Now that U23 is out of the Olympics, Miazga would come to the full team for me.

I'd rather see Shea than Beasley and I hate Shea.

Nagbe would be better at CAM than Bradley, who consistently looks crappy there.

I usually don't hope for injuries, but I hope Jozy pulls his hamstring again.

One of the best.

This.

I'd like to see the team play players who have a shot at 2018. Beasley is a great player from our past. Perhaps he can even provide value in our present. But that takes value away from our future. Play players and lineups now that can gel for the next two years.
