USMNT Talk

Now that U23 is out of the Olympics, Miazga would come to the full team for me.

I'd rather see Shea than Beasley and I hate Shea.

Nagbe would be better at CAM than Bradley, who consistently looks crappy there.

I usually don't hope for injuries, but I hope Jozy pulls his hamstring again.

I agree on Miazga; I would have him as a backup. There are a few other young players I'd have on the bench too, like Pulisic and Morris.

How big is the roster for the tournament? 23?

I guess my bench would be:
- Forwards: Wood, Morris (assuming Johannsson is not healthy)
- Mids: Mix, Nagbe, Beckerman, Jones, Pulisic
- Defenders: Ream, Beasler, Miazga
- GK: Horvath

I agree that we should have the younger guys playing rather than the vets. We're qualifying for the World Cup - not only would the guys gel way better by then, but imagine the drive they would have to succeed on that stage if it was them that got them there, not just a bunch of vets like Beasley who have already retired from INT play and shanked us out of the Gold Cup.

Agree that we should be playing the younger guys. I thought that Bill Hamid should've been our starting #1 GK after the Brazil WC and still do. Competition should be between Bingham and Hamid not Howard who lets be honest is losing his touch cause he's not getting any younger and he hasn't been playing for his club team and Guzan who is just an okay keeper.

Speaking of younger guys playing, does anyone know anything about the weight training regimen for USMNT players from youth through pro leagues?

One of the things I noticed in the U23 Colombia matches was how much stronger Colombia was. At every position they were at least as fast as we were and looked like they were carrying 20 extra pounds of muscle. It seemed as though they won 90% of the 50/50 balls simply because the US players bounced off of them.

Fitness programs are coordinated by club/college teams. USMNT doesn't have the players long enough at a time to institute a program - except right before the WC when players arrive weeks ahead of time. If the residency program for the U-17 is still in Florida, they probably have a program in place, but that's a special situation.

As I've written elsewhere, I'd like to see Cameron moved forward into defensive midfield, which is where he's played most of the year for his club anyway. It would also be preferable for Fabian to play at LM, but we need to have someone we can trust at LB.

The problem with those two moves is that they probably won't happen because of JK's affinity for certain players in the midfield like Jermaine Jones, Zardes, and Bedoya. It's just sad because JJ has no business being on the roster if we are really prepping for 2018 and will probably start every game.

I would like to see Pulisic some time on the wing as well. I think he and Fabian have played on the left and right side for their clubs.

I would be interested to see a 4-2-3-1
ST: Dempsey/Jozy
CAM: Nagbe/Dempsey
LM: Johnson
RM: Pulisic
CDM: Cameron/Bradley
LB: Shea
CB: Besler/Brooks
RB: Yedlin

I could be down with this.

Feel free to completely laugh at this lineup, but lets just score lots and lots of goals and hope we end up with more than the other team:

Wood-Dempsey-Jozy-Morris
Johnson-Bradley-Nagbe-Yedlin
Besler-Brooks-Cameron

I know a lineup like this would never seriously be considered, but it might be fun on FIFA

so 11 field players and no keeper? playing last man back rules?

First you were complaining about player numbers in the other thread, now you're complaining about the number of players in this one? You are one tough rule stickler, buddy.
Observations are not necessarily complaining & enforcement of rules is not complaining. My every-week angst with Villa's on-field pouting is definitely complaining.

That's fair. I stand corrected!

Good timing for our games against TFC and Portland. Though I wish Saunders had gotten the call up.
