USMNT Talk

Losing the US game at MetLife will suck for those looking forward to seeing the MNT, but if they want to sell the ticket, a Brazil/Columbia matchup will probably be a huge item in the tri-state area. That could be a very valuable ticket to sell.

Hopefully Brazil doesn't lay a goose egg tomorrow by losing to Chile and taking the 2nd spot - if that happened, not only would MetLife lose out on the MNT, but a Columbia/Chile match would not be as valuable on the secondary market.

I don't disagree on the value to the general public but as a long time arsenal fan I'm honestly happier with Chile over Brazil as it gives me a chance to see Sanchez.

This is the current TicketMaster page for the US Quarterfinal match in Seattle. I don't think they're selling the third tier on the west side as there are no tickets listed for sale. The American Outlaws will sit in the three sections directly behind the south goal. That's a lot of blue dots to fill with red, white, and blue on Thursday.

It's not Chile or Brazil. It's PERU or Brazil with Ecuador almost guaranteed 2nd place (and a matchup vs the USA in Seattle) with a win over Haiti.

And the semifinal (if we beat Ecuador) will most probably be the winner of Argentina - Venuzela (unless they somehow beat Mexico too!). It's all starting to take shape.

What app is this? I've been using the MLS app to look up the games and the times, but it doesn't have the tables like that.

Oh, and that possible USA v The Messis or Venezuela semifinal is in Houston on 6/21 if anyone is interested.

Unless Brazil and Peru tie.

If so, Brazil finishes 1st and Ecuador 2nd with a win by 2 goals or more. If Brazil & Peru draw 0-0, then Ecuador only has to win 2-1 to go through on goals scored. Brazil would be first place on GD in the event of a draw.

If Ecuador beats Haiti, they all but ensure 2nd place.

So what do we think of Zardes? His lack of touch was evident once again with his botched chance off a brilliant Wood setup. I'll admit his pace and hustle has helped on the defensive front this tournament, especially when we went down to 10 men. But if he's playing as a mid in a 442, would we not be better off with Zusi or Nagbe in that place? And in a 433 Pulisic is young and rested. He can hustle too, and maybe score/set up a goal Zardes couldn't, taking pressure of the defense with his offensive contributions.

Love his energy and hustle, but his touch and decision making around the box is horrible. That assist was a pure gift of horrendous defending - it was as if they couldn't believe the ball was moving semi-slowly across the ground and still made it through the box untouched.

But FFS, being down a man and released into the box on a 1-v-1 with the keeper and he doesn't even get a shot off is damning.... those opportunities don't come along often, and never for the USMNT - that could have sealed the game up early.

I'd like to see this vs Ecuador:

Dempsey - wood
Jones nagbe Bradley bedoya
Fabian brooks Cameron orozco
Guzan

If you said swap zusi for Jones I wouldn't argue.

Bedoya had the infamous "flu-like symptoms" last night and looked like crap when he got off the field. Considering what 75min in 90deg heat can do to a regular body, let alone one that's feverish, I'd rest him.

Orozco got burned a few times allowing his guy to pass him for a cross. I'd consider Birnbaum at CB and shift Cameron over to RB.

yes on Nagbe. Wood ran himself to death - he may be in line for a breather. Pulisic should get a run out for really fresh legs as should Zusi.

I'd even consider resting Jones and playing Beckerman.

Theoretically, the next game should be the easiest one left, so this is when guys should take a breather.

4-3-3 with 2 DMids and Nagbe in front:
Pulisic - Dempsey - Zusi
Nagbe
Beckerman Bradley
Fabian Brooks Birnbaum Cameron
Guzan

Everything you said makes a lot of sense. Except breaking up the Cameron Brooks CB pair. Our backline has looked great and finally has some consistency. I'd rather keep Orozco as a place holder for the suspended Yedlin (even if more talent could start by swapping positions) to keep everyone practicing and playing in the same spots.

I still don't think Nagbe will get the start. Jones looked totally gassed for the entire second half but I don't think Klinsmann is confident in Nagbe yet. I say Jones starts but gets subbed off at 60 for Nagbe depending on how the game is going. If we're ahead then we'll see Beckerman, if we're losing then you'll see Nagbe.

Don't forget Nagbe scored the only goal in our friendly vs Ecuador before the Copa. That should be factored in. Also, I might want to take back the idea of Orozco starting at RB, may rather give Timmy Chandler the start instead.

Timmy Chandler is still with the team?!?! I haven't heard that name in a while.

I think Orozco will start. The rest of the team will be the same from the previous matches. IMHO. That being said I do think that Nagbe should start. I just don't think he will.
