Vancouver Postgame

The next time they lose or draw one they should've won, just remember that it's a long season. I was surprised to see people talk about being out of the playoffs already, before today's match.

We're one stupid extra time Montreal corner away from being tied for first.... Somehow.

Rant time......

Bench Saunders I still stand by it that first goal gosh dude ugh still had a couple of good saves even if he stopped the penalty sort of

Villa oh Captain my captain...felt like the weight of the world was lifted he collapsed to the ground thanking the heavens when the whistle blew.

I'm getting the away jersey with his name in the back now...when the end of season sale happen :D...again going balls out

Shelton....dude has to learn how to play like a player of his size....use your size to over power opposing players I do think you can do it but mentally doesn't think he is there

Saunders can't start again baring a major injury crisis. Ive been saying it all along that he is a very poor goalkeeper. All right he makes a few decent saves, but at the end of the day thats his job. He is horrible with the ball at his feet and his distribution is pathetic!
The two wing backs were very poor today. Both players caught out of position on numerous occasions. It led to the penalty although the foul looked clearly outside the box. (ref was terrible all game) (haven't seen replay yet either)
Brilliant and hernandez were decent and with a run of games together could form a solid partnership.
I like Bravo although can switch off at times and ends up chasing back or fouling
Pirlo much better
Tommy mac very quiet and should have got the curly finger earlier
Shelton played a lot better but still shows signs of inexperience. Needs to have more confidence on the ball, always looking for Villa instead of taking a sot himself.
Lopez was very good but needs to cut out the needless yellow cards
Villa is just different gravy motm
Mendoza always looks great coming of the bench. Doesn't seem the same player when he has started. great strike to win it
Mix just was Mix, loads of mad running around with no real input to game.
3points and things don't look as bad all of a sudden, which seems like nonsense reading back over this :D

WE FUCKIN WON!!!! most important and surpirsing element of the game.

Can't give a cogent acount of the game, due to excessive beer intake, but I though we played ok. Delighted as fuck to have won.

Best part was at the winning goal when so many beers were thrown everywhere in the GA - everyone around where I was standing got soaked and I still smell like beer. Quality!

Where the fuck were you sitting? I didn't know we had a section with free psychedelics.

Welcome back, Midas. Would that it were true. As it is, I was just exaggerating. Of course Ousted is a vastly better keeper. But he had a very bad day. His juggling of Villa's long shot was positively Saundersesque.

One saunderseaque moment does not a Saunders make. It takes a months, nay, years to establish such a low baseline of expectations.

How did you all feel about the TMac -> Mix sub, with Mix taking up Tommy's forward position rather than Vieria calling a formation change and Mix dropping into midfield?

I thought it was a bold choice, and my gut feeling was to like it. Also probably good for Mix's confidence, maybe, though one could argue it's yet another instance of Mix being played out of position.

I was glad PV stuck with the higher mid position for Pirlo. Yet another hard-working, energetic performance from Pirlo, and as I mentioned before he basically double-created Villa's second goal. Bravo, maestro.

"I think he showed his experience. He showed his personality because when you concede a goal like that it's not easy, especially early in the game. But after that, he was composed, he made some really good decisions and I'm really pleased with his performance today, Josh. He's one of the leaders of the team and I think he showed how strong he is in his mind because after the mistake he still concentrated on the game and I think when you win a game like that you need your goalkeeper on his best and I think Josh on his decision making was really good." - Vieira, post match press conference.

Experience. Leadership. Qualities Johansen doesn't have because Johansen isn't given the opportunity to play. It's a Catch-22 and we're not going to see Eirik at any point this season barring injury or suspension to Saunders.

You could literally see the defenders considering passing it back to him and then thinking better of it throughout the first half.
He and Hernandez are like some weird soccer mashup of hot potato and musical chairs. Where's the ball stop with when the goal happens?!?!

And frankly, I blame Saunders. People are scared to hit the ball back to him win any pace because he's so off, and that just adds to the pressure.

Don't hifive Saunders again, dude. I felt sold out. And we saw it. We all saw it, Fredo.

It took coming home and watching the replay to see just how amazing that corner kick goal was from start to finish. Villa's twisting volley was awesome of course, but he and Pirlo were totally coordinated. Villa set up low, then broke from his marker and ran straight to where Pirlo put the ball. Damn that was sweet.

This was the loudest I've heard Yankee Stadium in a long time. Brilliant set a nice pick for Villa on the second goal that let him get into that much space. And when the game ended Villa fell to the ground like he just won the World Cup. Big 3 points at home after a crap start
