Dome was screaming at Lewis for not defending the Brek Shea cross that lead to the equalizer.
Typical city way, it seems. There’s a reason Sancho, Camacho and Duncan left so early, despite being YNT standouts and recognized as among the eminent talents across all PL academies. So SKC had a 16yo deliver an assist last night, and Vancouver turned the tide with Davies, but we continue to let our HG players stagnates in street clothes.
At what point will our staff concede that getting minutes to the HG’s are more important and beneficial than to our lowest tier senior players (LTSP)???? If they never play, they won’t get better, and the HG’s have a higher ceiling than the LTSP. Plus, the optics should be all about showing the Best Academy players that if they sign, they will have an opportunity to earn minutes..... I can only wonder if Haak is nervy that he won’t get a fair shake to play over longer-tenured players even if they aren’t as skilled (TMac, Awuah, Wallace, etc) - hes seen the lack of minutes Sands has received.
Edit: SKC’s kid got MOM honors. "Man of the Match" debut for Sporting KC's Carolina-born teen - NBC Sports
Ive always wondered if it’s a problem with the success versus failure of the first team. Shitty clubs have nothing to lose by playing their youth, thus they get tons of minutes and advance their skills and then are bought by the rich clubs. Whereas the successful first teams “seem” to have the idea that they can’t afford to play youngsters because it’ll be a drop in talent among the 11. Its the wrong attitude and cuts their legs off at the knees- always then beholden to the transfer window.Typical city way, it seems. Pep is sort of trying to fix it over there, so maybe we’ll follow suit in a couple of years.

NYCFC is acting like a club that can’t be bothered with training up the youth. I watched it with ManU and they wasted a slew of talent - only now are they getting some of the kids time despite Jose talking like he doesn’t give two shits about them. I pray we don’t waste 5 years of academy growth because the kids realize they’ll get more playing time with the NCAA or overseas.
I mean, twist my words if you want to, you know exactly what I was referring to - the Academy players. We don't play young players?
Medina 21
Lewis 21
Castellanos 19
Herrera 20
Maybe you should say we don't play the young players you want.
I'd be pretty surprised if Foden doesn't get a loan move, though. His development needs to continue and I can't imagine there are anywhere near enough minutes available at City for him.Pep is sort of trying to fix it over there

The players you listed:
Medina- DP so he’s gonna play no matter what.
Herrera- Loan from the mothership, so he’s gonna play no matter what.
Castellanos- he’s likely the rumored Youth TAM player that’s been brought in specifically to play.
Lewis- is just now getting playing time after rotting on the bench for the better part of two seasons.
Those first three players are bought players, not academy developed. There’s a big difference in regard to my former post, and you know it, so spare me the indignation.
Well, wouldn't "the sake" be development of our academy players and therefore improving our future squad? Playing your kids is good for your franchise.the sake
Did I say that???? I didn’t. I was never comparing the bought players to the developed. You're implying we play certain players due to the sunk cost in their acquisition. I don't see that at all. The acquired youth is objectively better than the academy guys so far.
I get your distinction, but you also can't just play players for the sake of playing them.
I think maybe you're both right. The HG guys need minutes, we need the best 11 on the pitch. Perhaps the way to have both of those things is NYCFC 2 playing in the USL. Or at least a real affiliate team. HG folks get to play 90 every week, first team doesn't have to play people just to give them minutes. Best of both worlds. Plus we'd have another team to follow as an added bonus. And more jerseys and scarves to buy. (Like I need more jerseys!)Did I say that???? I didn’t. What I said was we should be playing players that have the higher ceiling (the HG) than the Lowest Tier Senior Players (LTSP). The minutes TMac & Wallace get don’t help their development and they really don’t help the club in games. Wallace is so ineffective that Twitter goes bananas realizing the towel has been thrown in when he enters matches. TMac is useless on so many levels. And Awuah, while young and a draft pick, is not at a level that can play at MLS speed and he very likely does not have the upside to match the best HG since he’s older by multiple years and struggling with game speed and decisions. The one match Sands got, he immediately made an impact with defensive stops and some beautiful outlet passes.
500 min for any of those players really does almost nothing for them/the club whereas 500 min for Sands and Scally, at their ages, is huge for their development. With the lack of offensive players we have had available on the bench, I’d take Scally in that role because he can play a wing that defends, and he’s a kid with a non-stop motor.

I know a nice ballpark right near JFK that might be available for soccer nowadays.
