While I can't answer for Dan and co, most websites and forum/messages boards run off a basic template that then can be customized to various degree's.

Because they probably use the exact same company: XenForo

The majority of forums use this software XenForo. The rest use Vbulletin (BigSoccer used to use them)

If this forum was copying everything BigSoccer does, you would have been banned already for trolling.

Xenforo is one of the safest forum platforms out there. I couldn't even tell you what big soccer uses but I picked Xenforo because of that reason and that reason alone. I would love to have a lot of the features and addons that vbulletin has but like I said. Picked it for safety. And the skin is free and I picked it for the colors. I'm sure hundreds of forums use this skin as well but with a different banner/logo.

Just checked them out. Layout wise we're very different. Structure wise similar as is every forum.
