Yaya Toure to set to come to NYCFC?

Sorry not on file with NYCFC_Dan
That would be the case if logged during a shout box, but there’s that pesky post’s date stamp.

It’d be best for the Cronut’s development if I let it go overseas, but I can end up for nearly twice the Gam/Tam by dealing with you. Decisions.

Not a good sign for those in the no Yaya camp rumor story is now on official team home page and the official team instagram posted a link to the article. Wtf I can’t believe we are going to do the old ass no defense midfielder thing again.

"The three-time World Cup attendee would not require a Designated Player roster spot, according to a source, which has peaked NYCFC’s interest in the player."

Can’t wait until everybody here raises their hands in disgust when the ball is turned over and Yaya lazily jogs back instead of providing cover while some “mediocre” MLS player scores one on the counter.

I’m done with that, saw enough of it already in the first three years. I don’t care his budget charge, I don’t want that on this team. The guy can’t be motivated to play for Man City you really think he’s going to like crossing half the US to play RSL in front of 10k fans? Come on.

Rant over.

Why are people upset as a non-DP deal? Sounds like NYCFC entering MLS 4.0 IMO. Get these vets that normally would require a DP deal to sign for less. He is also an improvement from Pirlo without taking the coveted DP spot, and would be more than welcome on a team that has struggled with injuries the past couple seasons.

I know some still are, but I'm in a wait-and-see mode if he does come and its as a non-DP (I will be furious if he comes as a DP). It just depends on what the "non-DP" means in terms of salary and ultimately, how much allocation money we burn on it.

Just look at the impact guys like Chanot, Ring, and Callens have had and their cap hits. Its ultimately not just a salary cost, but also an opportunity cost (of course there is also the possibility of not hitting on a signing ala Nemec).

Two reasons:

1. It's still likely going to eat up a good chunk of TAM that could be used on a younger player
2. I doubt he's willing to come of the bench so even if he's an improvement over Pirlo he's going to be a defensive liability that the formation has to once again be warped around and limited by.

i.e. Lampard
He's a really different kinda player, though.
I think the only way Yaya works is higher up the pitch. I don't think he would be a good replacement for either Ring nor Herrera. It would be interesting to use him as a target CAM in a 4-3-3, which I think is a position I just made up.
With our / the zeitgeist's focus on defending from the very front (Villa leads the press, etc.), this may be an anachronistic idea. Maybe it will work in some spectacular future where teams are so skillful that pressing is no longer effective. A broken clock tells the right time twice a day. But that is not gonna happen before Yaya retires.

My assumption is this means Herrera is gone. Assuming Maxi stays and we stick with a 4-3-3 I'd guess that Maxi drops deeper and plays more defense to fill the Herrera role. Yaya will play the higher CAM role Maxi somewhat played last year minus the defensive work rate but with the addition of better finishing and more goals ideally. I know I'm really fixated on it but it's just so disappointing. The last game of the season we finally got to see the offense with our 3 ideal CMs and overlapping fbs on both sides of the field. While we didn't get all the goals we needed it was great to watch.

This just feels like it will put us right back into our weird lopsided formation. As usual only the LB will go forward. PV will play a CB like RB so we can essentially play 3 at the back anytime we are on offense. Wallace and Jack will be instructed have to play a ton of D to cover killing their legs tracking back with Jack getting no overlap on the RW. Defensively it works, we gave up very few goals but it makes the offense way too predictable.

The only option that gives me hope would be the possibility we switch to some sort of 3-5-2:

---------------Villa----------New DP-------------
-----------------------Yaya------------------------
Mata/Wallace-------Maxi-------------Harrison
------------------------Ring------------------------
--------Callens------Chanot-----------CB?-------
------------------------SJ---------------------------
