First time in Club history, NYCFC have lost back to back opening regular season matches. Mataritta with the mistake against Toronto again leading to the winning goal.

This is not the NYCFC that was fun to watch last year.

Didn’t see the match but from just looking at the stats and highlights it looks really bad. NYCFC should go out and sign Christen Press. Did anyone see her curler against England? Is it me or does NYCFC (when they actually get a shot off) shoot directly at the keeper and put no movement on the ball?
I feel sorry for Sean. He deserves better.

I wasn't in the chat today so I don't know what the zeitgeist was, or this will be an unpopular opinion, but imo our biggest liability was Parks. And that's been consistent since end of last year. Second was Maxi,is he injured? GMS was pointless as well.

Finally I am not sure what, if anything, Deila is trying to do tactically. Obviously it's way too early to get worried, but still.

Having said all that, we were competitive in both games, against pretty good teams, and I'm not overly worried. Yet.

I have a lot of thoughts but I'll try to keep this short. MOTM was clearly Johnson with Sands as a close second. Did a great job with Jozy who was clearly targeting him and he held his own pretty well.

We had periods where we looked pretty decent. Good movement of the ball forward and down the wings, but as soon as we hit our forwards, things just fell apart. Out of sync and unorganized and maxi is about 60% of his usual self right now. I really hope the higher ups are not pressuring Ronny to play Medina and Mitri despite poor performances.

Ronny's tactics confuse the hell out of me. I can't even begin to understand what he's trying to do. If his philosophy is very attacking and his solution for that is to send 2/3rds of our midfield into the attack whenever we gain any type of control of the ball leaving huge gaps of space in the midfield, then i fear for our team.

Mata's giveaway was the start of TFC's goal and he knew he messed up. He had flashbacks of the playoffs and his play after that was evident of his mindset. It was no different than during the playoffs. Next time we play TFC at home, can we start Gudi at left back please?

Hard to really judge or demand a #RonnyOut, but so far, things are not looking great. He inherited a great team with a clear style and has turned it into a team with no personality going forward. I suppose the silver lining is we seem to be better at defending set pieces?

Someone find and GIF the moment in the first half when Jozy tried to body up Sands to hold up the ball and Sands just went over him and headed the ball away. Enjoy Sands because he won’t be here for long.

that’s about the only thing I want to remember from this game. Well, that and SJ’s monster game in net.

before i forget - UNKEL SUCKS .. even if he gave us the pass on the PK.. his calls were shit.

We offered nothing. I'm loath to try and write off a coach after two games, but what have we learned against a solid opposition? I'll need answers before I jump on the Ronny bandwagon for this year.

Parks seems to have caught Maxi's "I MUST NEVER SHOOT" disease from a year or two back.

We're just not match-sharp yet. Slow decision-making, poor touches all over the place.

we're in the same boat as TFC. bringing back 90% of players. There's no reason why we shouldn't be match sharp and TFC is. we also had CCL extra prep time, including the san carlos series, which was basically pre-season scrimmages cause they were bad.

We went from being able to play 5 or so systems fluently to not being able to play 1 system fluently.

Every time a player gets the ball they have to look around to find their team mates. Passing lanes close in that time. Players get closed down.

Ronny said he was gonna play more competitive games in training this year, not spend so much time on tactics and so-called positional games. To me, we are crying out for positional understanding.

When we have the ball in a specific part of the pitch and the other team is in a specific shape, where should we be? Right now every player is figuring it out from scratch and the outcome is stultifying.

Sands the only bright spot for me. It's sad to see our players with slumped shoulders, frustrated with one another.

toronto looked pretty match-sharp considering they have had a shorter preseason and fewer competitive games than NYCFC. I think this is tactics more than sharpness.

did you see any Toronto players running into each other or occupying the same space? Passes sent aimlessly to the other team?

At this point I’m ready to cut three M’s and one D.

Medina is crap.
Mitrita is crap.
And Mata is stinky festering crap.

I’m already on the DeilaOut bandwagon. His tactics are non-sensical. His clinging to Medina as a starter is idiotic. His subs never seam to have rhyme or reason. If not for Johnson, we’d have been blown out today.

Running into each other's spaces is a BIG red flag for me. we never ever had this issue under Dome cause everyone knew exactly where they were supposed to be. We were able to play no look, 1 time passes into channels cause we knew there was someone going there. Not now.

Didn't help that Unkel occupied all our spaces as well, but at least that got better as the game went on.

We've had three coach changes. At each coach change, we started not doing well for a while. Usually because of coaches changing tactics / mentality. I think the players are just not good at picking up that new tactic/mentality at first, but once they get it it works well. I'm willing to give Deila half a season.

reactions are up. ronny speaks english better than dome, but his press conferences seem to say a lot less somehow? maybe it's me. I just feel like he repeats a lot of the same things.. "tough game. we need to be better." some form of that over and over. *shrug*

Ronny's explanation for no Isi to start is cause he hasn't trained long enough and isn't match fit. For Taty - no real reason for keeping him off the field.

Having flashbacks to the calls of #DomeOut from the start of last season and to when he initially took over 2 years ago. If you already legitimately want Deila out then you will never be happy.

Edit: allow me to refresh everyone's memory with the post match thread after week 1 & 2 of last season.

Last season the team was at 5 points after 6 games. One suspects that the total will be higher this year.

The past two games were not ideal, but it seems premature to judge after two road games against two top five teams in the conference (one of which was 10 v. 11).

That noted, Parks left every pass short today and Maxi was ineffective, at best. There was no connection today into the final third. They need to improve quickly. Or, the summer window better be Medina out and a new 10 in.
