I just want to say that the MLS playoff format and schedule is fucking stupid. I'm as hardcore a fan as MLS has and I stopped giving a shit weeks ago.

I agree, but I'd also like to hear your idea on an improvement. I know it's been discussed before, but I always like seeing the topic reignite as every now and again a truly interesting idea emerges.
You have to change the format so you condense the playoffs between the October break and the November break. JGarrettLieb 's idea is the only one that works IMHO.I agree, but I'd also like to hear your idea on an improvement. Agree. That's the most viable and simple option. I'm sure it was discussed at the time, but earlier this year (maybe around summer) SUM/MLS sent out a big survey regarding playoff format and schedule. I responded to the survey in line with what you said (but used lots more words and arguments there). I do think they're legitimately going to change it very soon. If not for 2018, maybe for 2019. If not for the fans, then because FOX and ESPN have to hate it just as much as we do.The only remotely viable one I've seen is to drop the home and away leg stuff and make it fully single elimination. Doing so also has the benefit of making your final position in the league table really mean something.

So I’m the only one watching? Cool.
Bradley a traffic cone in midfield. Jozy doing his big game pout and shove routine. Steffen saves a penalty.
VAR botched multiple times.
MLS Playoffs. It’s FAN-tastic.
One stone cold penalty not called among them.At least no one can say that this game was fixed, that was absolutely shocking defense by Toronto and should have been penalized much more.
How many tap in opportunities did Columbus have in the last 15 minutes, 8?
In fairness to the bitchass Seattle fans, they've been doing it for at least 4-5 years.Hot Take: I really don't like the Viking Clap anymore feels so played out in the MLS saw it on Wedsenday and now today. It looks and sounds cool but just feels played out

Hope they win again, despite my disdain. Like them way more than any team with zbradley and Altidore. Those two guys are among my most disliked players in the entire world. By among, I mean locked into 1 & 2.
Agree with you that it is way over-used in MLS now. But...Hot Take: I really don't like the Viking Clap anymore feels so played out in the MLS saw it on Wedsenday and now today. It looks and sounds cool but just feels played out
This is very true. I went to a Sounders game back in 2012 and this was a big thing there. Plus the way that that stadium is structured, the sound carries so well. Was back for the Copa America game against Ecuador last summer and the boom boom clap was pretty awesome. In fairness to the bitchass Seattle fans, they've been doing it for at least 4-5 years.

This reminded me of the time I had some Eurosnob friends over to watch the MLS Cup Final, hoping to convince them to get into MLS and support the local game. First thing that happens is Clarke makes an egregious error and slams it off the attacker into his own net. Predictably, my friends remained Eurosnobs.
No such gaffes this time around, but when the refereeing is this consistently bad, it's hard to become attached to the outcome of the game, or indeed the playoffs altogether.
About 30 minutes longer than I lasted in last year's historic first home playoff game. Didn't even had time to finish my beer, and I was headed back to catch TWD in real time.I took a group of four new fans to a game to get them engaged with NYCFC. We lost. To New Jersey. By 7 goals.
Their fandom lasted about 45 minutes.
