So while the 2019 champion is yet to be decided the 2020 qualifying begins. These are the "open" division where amateur teams from regional amateur leagues sign up to participate. These rounds last all of 2019 and are drawn by region and are set to happen September 21/22.

FYI in 2020, the open cup will actually start earlier than usual for MLS teams to accommodate the leagues cup expansion happening next year.

The local amateur teams are:
New York Pancyprian Freedoms (NYC- CSL team)
Lansdowne Yonkers FC ( Yonkers)
CSA Westchester (Westchester)

The pairings are to be played September 21/22.

EDIT: I only put NY area since they only posted them as a thread of tweets. ill update when they put out an article with full list of fixtures for whole country.

Its still not clear if NISA teams will be admitted, i think all the us soccer division 3 approvals happen early next year.

Rumors are that MLS teams will play one round earlier. others wanted MLS teams to play in the lower league stadium in that round. well see

New structure is out. MLS teams join in 2 different rounds depending on their 2019 finish.

1st Round: Amateur and Semi-Pro teams
2nd Round (58 teams): 2nd and 3rd Divisions join (USL & NISA)
3rd Round (40 teams): Bottom 11 MLS teams join
Round of 32: Top 12 MLS teams join

In 2019, the 21 U.S. based MLS teams all joined in the Round of 32 and were matched up against each other or one of the 11 winners from the previous round.

In 2020, 11 MLS teams join one round earlier - presumably all matched up against one of the 29 teams from a lower division. The other 12 MLS teams join in the same Round of 32. At that point - barring upsets - they'll be matched against a pool of 11 MLS teams and 9 lower division teams.

There will be upsets. This is an improved format for the Cup.

In my "soccer fiction" view of the future. The US Open Cup becomes an event which draws eyes and views with the possibility that amateur and minor league teams can play against and beat the Rooney/Zlatan type MLS teams -- this format makes those possibilities more real.
