Christiano Ronaldo is not eligible for the draft.....May sound crazy, but I don't think we should draft based on BPA or even needs. Think we should bring in players that fit the talent, mindset and physicality mold to play whatever style it is we are going for.
He's the sexy pic this year. Everyone is talking about him. Hope I am wrong, but we ain't getting him.
I see what you are saying...but he is a midfielder now, maybe he could be a winger. He's a good attacker and has talent. Wouldn't pass him up, whatever the need is. Yaro will be gone, so that leaves us with maybe Vincent, which is a need. Then a crap shoot on CBs...which we will wind up doing...rolling the dice on a CB hoping for the best.
What’s your role on the pitch?
I’m like a winger, so my job is to combine passes, go forward and take on my man to try to get some crosses into the box.
Sometimes I get a few assists, sometimes I get a few goals, but defending is important as well. That’s what we focus on as a team, defending and that aspect of the game, because we’re a pretty attacking side.
What’s your favorite part of playing as a winger?
Playing as a winger, my favorite thing is to go at guys on the other team.
I think scoring goals and assisting is also the best part, because when you score or assist its just the same to me. I get that same buzz every time no matter what.
What’s your least favorite part about playing as a winger?
My least favorite part is defensively. We’ve worked on a few different strategies this year, and I’ve struggled to get used to that.
I think we’re getting there as a team, however, and I’m starting to get the hang of it.
If we could get a nice bag of balls, I would trade all our picks.I'm not even going to remotely pretend that I know anything about college soccer or the Super Draft is any sort of cure all that will give a team a franchise player like any of the Big 4 sports can get, but as things are at the moment, I wouldn't make any sort of deal whatsoever. I'd be content to sit there with the #4, because we're going to get a "player" regardless of who it is.
Now on the other hand, if when our turn comes up and someone with a relatively high pick (eg RSL) is all hot and bothered for whoever is available and wants to talk trade, then imho you do your due diligence.
If a team like RSL wants to flip first round picks and toss in their 2nd rounder (which would translate into being a high second rounder and recoup the pick we traded away and some guys here think is valuable) then NYCFC should do it.
This is a quote I found in an interview from Wake Forest's student paper:

That's absolutely not true. Not all athletes necessarily value an education, but many do, especially athletes from college graduate families where there's a plan for life after soccer. Sure historically a few of american guys that skipped or left college early have parlayed their knowledge of the sport in to a coaching or pundit gig, but but that's never a sure thing, and how many parents want to bankroll their kids as adults? Which leaves many going to college for a degree, and also the opportunity to see if on a smaller stage they rank with the best.If we could get a nice bag of balls, I would trade all our picks.
No but seriously, I'd take anything of value for our pick. Especially intl spot or allocation money. The draft is ridiculous in MLS. You get to pick the best of a very limited subset of available talent. If they are that good, they are not going to play NCAA soccer.
Not from England, but pretty sure you are correct.Re: tanking at the end of the season to get higher in the draft.
I thought I read somewhere a couple years ago that teams in England are distributed money based on their final placement in the table. That's irrespective of TV money and the parachute payments that relegated teams get. If it's a significant enough amount of money, that would be excellent incentive not to tank. But that's not to say MLS could ever come up with high enough amounts to make it worthwhile.
PS. Maybe someone from England can tell me whether my recollection is accurate or just a pipe dream.
That's true about England..... but the problem with MLS is that the teams that don't make the playoffs get extra Garber Bucks (not sure if worse teams get more on a sliding scale or everybody gets equal), so there's absolutely no incentive not to tank (short of players' consciences) if there's a massively talented player looming in the draft.Re: tanking at the end of the season to get higher in the draft.

I have always said the top pick should go the Best record not in the playoffsThat's true about England..... but the problem with MLS is that the teams that don't make the playoffs get extra Garber Bucks (not sure if worse teams get more on a sliding scale or everybody gets equal), so there's absolutely no incentive not to tank (short of players' consciences) if there's a massively talented player looming in the draft.
Even though MLS is championing the competitiveness and parity of the league, they need to institute something that absolutely rewards placement in the standings, and it has to be more valuable than the picking order of the draft(s).
I'd trade to move up to the second pick to get Harrison. Something like McNamara or Mullins and the 4th pick in the draft. Maybe Colorado would take that.
Reyna: "Hey Colorado, want to trade picks?"If you had the 2nd pick, would you take that package you just offered? I sure as hell wouldn't.
I would jump all over that offer. Mullins AND the #4 pick, are you kidding me??????If you had the 2nd pick, would you take that package you just offered? I sure as hell wouldn't.
Mullins + #4 is a good trade for another team. TMac + #4 needs to be sweetened.I would jump all over that offer. Mullins AND the #4 pick, are you kidding me??????
I would jump all over our management if we gave up Mullins AND the #4 pick.
Uggghhhhh Kjbert, I like you, but you have been saying some absolutely insane things lately. C'mon buddy!
I'm not sure, i'd even take Tmac +#4. I would gladly take Mullins straight up. People are overrating these top guys based on a few articles. Sure, they may be good, someday or right away. Or, they may never be good, or they might get good and bolt to Europe. Mullins is a solid starting forward who's ceiling is MLS. . It frustrates me that Kjbert, and some others, very weirdly show a great level of disrespect to the 2nd best American player on the roster. I'm not sure why he is rated so low, maybe it's because he is not flashy, maybe it's because he's more of a Joe Montana than a Mike Vick, but he is a very solid, and very important player. He allows David Villa, or any other striker, to be much more effective.Mullins + #4 is a good trade for another team. TMac + #4 needs to be sweetened.
