March 2016
November 2016

To be fair, he was required to say what he did in March and nobody is shocked by what he said today. And an opening probably won't happen for 2-3 years at least. Still, New York remembers.

And we remember in a good way. Let's be honest, Vieria is already the among the class of the league in terms of coaching ability, and he's functionally a rookie. He was always going to go back to Europe and to bigger and better things, he's simply too good for MLS, or rather in a few years he will be too good.

Listen to what the MLS vets said, "the level of preparation we get is nothing like I've experienced in the league." Does that speak to a coach who's going to stick around? We knew he was being groomed for greater things from the moment he arrived. I'm just happy we're going to have him for awhile.

I do recall when he first signed on that he said several things that made me think that he did, in fact, view the job as a stepping stone, and there was a chance that this would be a few year gig. He gave some lip service about it not being a stepping stone, but otherwise peppered with some not so subtle hints and carefully ambiguous statements suggesting the stay may not be a long one.

My current dream job is heading up some project lead in software integration or some such. My current job as an accountant could not be described as a stepping stone to the former. Doesn't change the fact that I'm in one job and dream of the other.

Besides, the whole "dream job" thing is likely the media's words to his lips. He likely thinks it would be great to stay in CFG and explore the possibilities; he may daydream of being Pep's replacement in Manchester. However I suspect that his real dream job is at Arsenal, especially if his success there could be seen as sticking two fingers up at Wenger for not keeping him in the youth setup. He was probably simply responding to the question "would you like to manage Manchester City one day?" though, and chances are never said the words "dream job".

Dudes if we promote our manager from here to the prem, we'll have young, promising coaches lining up to be the next in that spotlight. It's only a good thing to be a springboard to the big leagues

Agreed.

One thing I would say is that we learned Kreis and Heath struggled with guys like Villa, Lampard, Pirlo and Kaka.

Takes a special guy like Bruce Arena to manage egos like that, although I would argue the only guy close to our three and Kaka to play in MLS has been Beckham. I wonder if a David Villa or Frank Lampard management opportunity is in our future.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. And I really wouldn't mind being seen as a good stepping stone for the higher leagues.

Though in all fairness if we were going to set our former DP's up for success I think we would need to season them in youth training, and let them get some coaching badges under their belt. Coaching, at a high level, is a fairly different knowledge base from playing.

Totally agree. Will be interesting to see where Lampard ends up in January. Part of me thinks he ends up on the bench for an England U-17, 20, etc. squad for the time being. I think the FA wants him in house.

Yeah if the rumors are true that the FA has offered to expedite his coaching badges then hes probably being looked at for a future England manager, or rather the material that can be made into a future England manager. If that's the case then the FA won't screw around with his managerial development and will likely keep much of it in house with their best guys. Until its time for him to get his spurs in the championship or premier league.

His dream job is managing a World Cup winning French National Team.

Which of our current US guys could we mold into a future team coach? Or has the most coach like qualities?

Honestly, little Bradley. If you listen to interviews he seems to have a really good head on his shoulders wrt tactics. And he's got the necessary name power to at least get other stars to listen to him.

But who really knows, being a good player doesn't mean you're a good coach. And the best coaches migth have barely played professional soccer.
