I'd rather add three Matarritas and zero DPs than one DP and no Matarritas.
Agreed. The goal this year needs to be to get better overall. That's only going to happen with skilled position players with a high ceiling.

Agreed. I would like to find 3 young future premier league quality players playing for 150k then 1 aging post-premier league player. Both open the team to ridicule, i.e. farm team or retirement league, but for me I'd rather be a farm team and enjoy watching the future careers of players then try can catch the slowly dying embers of a former glory. Ideally turn 2 DP salaries into 6 of these guys and 1 DP into a Giovinco type young DP and pay him out the wazoo what you're saving on the 2 DPs. The depth of the roster would be fantastic and we would still have the star appeal.

AKA how SKC operates to great success.

Have they had a lot of players move to European leagues? I really haven't followed them all that much over the years.
I don't think so, but they were the first to spread the Cap evenly around the starters with little disparity between salaries; obviously there was some, but they would regularly field 7,8,9+ guys all making "solid" MLS salaries and not the $50-60k pittance.

MLS and Wikipedia caveats apply, but we are supposedly losing three international spots at the end of this year. Sports were acquired (rented?) from DC, LA, and KC. One additional will expire at the end of 2017 (the spot we got for Mullins).

Current Internationals:
Eirik Johansen (INT'L)
Frederic Brillant (INT'L)
Maxime Chanot (INT'L)
Diego Martinez (INT'L)
Ronald Matarrita (INT'L)
Jefferson Mena (INT'L)
Federico Bravo (INT'L) - Loanee
Jack Harrison (GA, INT'L)
Andrea Pirlo (INT'L, DP)
Steven Mendoza (INT'L) - Loanee
David Villa (DP, INT'L)

That's 11 guys now, should be down to nine after the loanees are shed.

Harrison and Johansen may have green cards by opening day. Down to seven internationals.

Mena and Martinez have a non-zero chance of not being with the team next year. We could be down to six or seven internationals.

We will have nine slots. We might end up with ~10 internationals next year after signings. Shouldn't be a real concern yet.

Isn't Martinez a contracted player? Are you suggesting we're transferring him out?

I always forget if you thought they weren't playing Gomez in order to lower his purchase price or Martinez.

Gomez. I figured he's a guy we want to bring in but didn't want to make it seem like we have to bring him in. Ride the bench, lower transfer fee. Play a ton, seller's market.

I also posted this on Reddit, but I'll also share it here...

Pat Vieira went to Spain riding on a pony. Brought back to New York a man named Samir Nasri-ony.

Why "or"? Why not all 3?

Watching Sevilla play now vs. Juventus. Taped it from the other day.

I'm confident, after watching this squad play, PV's visit to Sevilla was to learn from Jorge Sampaoli. Sevilla are playing a 3-3-4 right now. Defensively, they turn into a 4-4-2. It's total football with a high press. Very entertaining. It also looks exhausting to play. But it makes total sense if PV wants to morph into a 3-4-3 or 3-3-4 next year.
