Agreed. The goal this year needs to be to get better overall. That's only going to happen with skilled position players with a high ceiling.

Just running some searches for fun, looking for the next Matarrita (Central American, 23 or younger, not in Europe):

Costa Rica
CB Alvin Bennett: http://www.transfermarkt.com/alvin-bennett/profil/spieler/235332
RM Jossimar Pemberton: http://www.transfermarkt.com/jossimar-pemberton/profil/spieler/290072
DM Christian Martinez: http://www.transfermarkt.com/christian-martinez/profil/spieler/374720

Honduras
CF Choco Lozano: http://www.transfermarkt.com/choco-lozano/profil/spieler/131275

Panama
AM Miguel Camargo: http://www.transfermarkt.com/miguel-camargo/profil/spieler/333089
CB Roberto Chen: http://www.transfermarkt.com/roberto-chen/profil/spieler/189525
CM Julio Segundo: http://www.transfermarkt.com/julio-segundo/profil/spieler/115898
ST Abdiel Arroyo: http://www.transfermarkt.com/abdiel-arroyo/profil/spieler/283472

No notable hits from T&T, Jamaica, or Guatemala.

I'm sure there's a ton more to pull from SA.

I'd rather add three Matarritas and zero DPs than one DP and no Matarritas.

Here's the beauty of CFG Scouting and the roster rules - we can do both. Matarrita has a cap hit of $175k.

To put that into perspective, one Diskerud costs as much as 4 Matarritas.

Matarrita makes less than Jason Hernandez, Jefferson Mena, Andoni Iraola. Matarrita costs the same as having Ethan White and Mehdi Ballouchy on the team.

Tommy McNamara

The guy is smart, not just book smart. He tries to understand the game, what goes wrong and what he does right. I feel his vision on the field demonstrates he's a few steps ahead of his peers.

I can picture Tubby Messi turning into Bruce Arena (at least physically).

So true. I'm just sick and tired of us signing skilled players without a position - or a high ceiling for that matter.

:/

A bit vague on my part as I was at work and didn't feel like typing a book. I meant players specific to the positions we are in need of. Not signing players to make Villa happy so he has a long time friend on the team and crap like that. Playing guys out of position as we've had to many times and so on. Sign youth that's 'good' with potential to be great, take Harrison for example.

No chance we get Vietto or Kranevitter, no need for a DP GK or LB, Krohn-Dehli nah, so it's Nasri or he's really just there to snoop around the coach?

Edit: Nasri and Vietto on loan with option to buy. I know it's Sevilla so it's not like they don't have money, but if I'm them and I choose to buy one or the other, I'd go with the 22 yo who is already good and has an indefinite ceiling. Nasri is what he is, Vietto could be the next world beater. I'm actually surprised Atleti gave them the buy option. You have to think someone is gonna come for Griezmann's release clause sooner or later (cough.. Pep.. cough..)

Which is completely plausible. The guy just finished his first season managing a first team, I wouldn't be surprised if he is trying to soak up different tactics, methods, etc. from as many coaches as he can. Its one thing to try and learn those things before you begin managing, but he can probably take away a lot more now that he has one season under his belt.

But don't get me wrong, I love the speculation that he could be looking at specific players. That's a lot more exciting than PV building his managing acumen.
