2018 Offseason Thread

The original trade rumor last year was Abdul-salaam for Tummy.
Yes, I did recall that.
There is one poster on here who has been harping on trading for this kid for about 18 months. I don't know who he is, but you are vindicated today. Step forward and receive your congratulations.
canchon canchon was pretty vocal about it, maybe? I was all about the rumor Adam mentions above because I thought it was addition, both conventional and by subtraction.

Would be amazing getting rid of Shelton. What’s the salary hit with Salaam and what kind of an upgrade are we looking at?

Shelton: $110,450.00 Guaranteed 2017
Abdul-Salaam: $110,550.00 Guaranteed 2017

So while we don't know their 2018 salaries right now, we're paying $100 more for a much better player who will also be sitting on the bench.

LB - DONE
RB - DONE

So we still are short 1 or 2 CBs. Sands provides cover for Ring at DM you would imagine. We lack depth otherwise at the CM position, so assume 1-2 more CMs to come through. You assume two more Wingers to be brought in. You assume 1-2 Strikers to be brought in.

So do we think there are 7-8 more moves left this offseason?

And that's assuming we aren't losing anybody.

Could see us losing Chanot and Harrison.

I can see that many moves being done, but only 2,3, maybe 4 being real eye openers or players to get excited about. 2-3 random pick ups just to fill out the roster, signed in a Ben Sweat (early season) type role after trying out.

Both are still listed on the first team roster, which is current through signing Tinnerholm. FWIW.

We have a few major signings left: a potential DP and 2-4 guys making TAM money. To fully utilize our TAM budget, we need to spend between $4 million and $5.2 million, and you have to spread that around given that the most you can use on any single guy is $1.35 million.

We also have several minor signings left. We jettisoned quite a few guys making the league minimum or very close to it. We need to add more like that for depth.

Yes, I started this back in March, suggesting that NYCFC trade Tommy Mac for Salaam...was then picked up by Doyle. Been beating the drum to get this guy since then.

So in a few days from zero RBs to two. SAS could really get coached up under Vieira.

NYCFC DEPTH CHART: 2018

Striker/Wing: Villa
Wing/MF: Harrison, Wallace, Lewis, McNamara
CM: Moralez, Ring, Herrera, Sands, Awuah
RB: Tinnerholm, Abdul-Salaam
LB: Matarrita, Sweat
CB: Chanot, Callens, Ferraresi
GK: Johnson, Rawls

Smart business would be to use your TAM to purchase young South American players that you can sell on.

Let's see if we're smart.
Smart business is also to use your TAM for players who will feature in the WC, do well, and then sell them on.

Looking pretty smart with the one signing.

We have 16-18 guys, depending on whether Chanot and Ferraresi are on the team.

I think we can divide the requirements into Quality Signings - where we bring in guys on DP or TAM level compensation that are expected to start or play frequently - and Backups - draftees, trialists and other guys who would provide depth and make at or close to league minimum.

Quality Signings
Striker or LW
Center Mid
Center Back
Winger or Midfielder
[Potentially 1 additional Center Back depending on status of Chanot]

Backups

Forward (winger or striker)
Center Mid
Center Back
Center Back
[potentially up to 1 additional Center Back depending on status of Ferraresi]
