2019 Offseason Thread

What if a guy like Diego Rossi was being shopped. 12 goals last year.

I wouldn’t be thrilled with it considering the rest of the squad. But he was better than Medina.
Fck that. Rossi is what Medina was supposed to be, the #3 DP. Having both of them on the team with Maxi as #1 is the FO shitting on the fans.

It's hard to imagine how we acquire someone DP worthy from within MLS.
Harder to imagine doing it without giving up a ton of Garber bucks we probably need.
But other than that failure of my own imagination I don't care if we could pull it off.
The only DP I could see coming from within the league and makes us better (as opposed to losing ground to other teams’ upgrades) is Giovinco. It’s no secret he hates Toronto’s field and he was disgruntled enough to possibly force a trade. But still, we should be aiming higher.

Benedetto would have been a great replacement for Villa at 9. Since we're not in it for him I assume it's because the club has something much better planned.
BTW any of you have a timeshare in Florida to sell me on?

Does anyone here actually want Quintero. The man is the same story every 4 years and it’s been proven time and time again. Some people just perform for their national team, yet fail at the club level. The guy is not DP level.

Christopher Jee stole my answer word for word, including the "well maybe if but probably not" parts. The main thing is, I think we need to aim to be at least as good as a 62-67 point team was in 2018 because that just might mean you're no better than a 54-60 point team in 2019. In other words, if you don't try to get 2 rungs better you might just get worse, and if you try to stay even you will definitely sink. We've been treading water for 3 years even though the team probably got better year over year.

So Quintero’s rights are owned by Chicago. He’s not going to Chicago though. Someone would have to purchase his rights.

The Expansion Draft is tomorrow. We are one of 15 teams participating. The 5 teams that had players selected last year do not participate.

The available player list will be released today. The draft is at 2 pm tomorrow.

I think it is a change that makes sense. Back when the expansion draft was bigger and the league was smaller, pretty much every team was affected. If you didn't have a player taken you probably made a trade to avoid it. But now with 20+ teams and only 5 players drafted, it's unfair to have a team get hit twice in 2 years while 15 or so teams give up nothing. Plus I think they are treating last year and this as a package. I would not be surprised if exemptions reset for the next expansion round.
Plus, we never lost anyone to Minnesota, Atlanta, or LAFC, so if we get hit we're kind of due.

Take TMac..... he’s a midfield general

One would assume LAFC would only be exploring this because they wanted to free up a DP spot to get someone better. Seems like a terrible more to be taking the leftovers of more ambitious clubs.

i still disagree, roster changes happen to every team every year in this league. In "theory" you dont lose your best players since you protect them ( and other players like homegrowns are protected i think) so the pools are limited anyway.

what if SKC ( i think they lost someone last year) has a good player not protected this year then cincy cant take them because LAFC got the benefit last year? i dont see it as "fair" to cincy since they dont have the same pool of teams as LAFC had.

personally its probably best to get rid of the expansion draft and add to the additional GAM/TAM or whatever it is that expansion sides got after we came in.

Or just treat Cincy like the promoted club they are and let them figure it out

From an on the field perspective, it is easier to replace Villa than Almiron.

If our overlords gave two shits, the fix for NYCFC is simple. Go get a 20 goal scorer. Go get Chicharito. It will cost you $10 million. He’ll score 20 goals.

We’re not that far away. We just have a mediocre manager and no one to score.
Forget Chicharito, go get Dario Benedetto from Boca Juniors will score a ton of goals, better player and will be cheaper. He wont sell seats but he will win games , skillful goal scorer and very passionate player.

You may be right but he isn’t cheaper. His release clause is $15 million apparently.

Chicharito has 1.5 years left on his deal.
