I'm surprised. After Carlitos fell through I figured the team was going to wait until summer. Given where we are, and having failed to get Mackay Stevens and Lopez, I wonder is it better to get our third choice now or a better option in the summer. I might have answered that question differently in early January, but here we are.

I want the best player, regardless of when that time is. But NYCFC hasn't been one to add significant talent in the summer (excluding Pirlo and Lampard). I think Claudio wants the same team from the beginning to the end.

I don't think it has to be a TAM signing either. I would take an Alan Gordon type of signing right now just to give us flexibility to bring a true striker off the bench or against a particular match up.

It also becomes an economical problem. After transfer windows close and teams dont have the ability to sign replacements, they are going to want more money.

Agreed, though it depends on what the quality drop off is from first choice to third choice.

And this as well. I've definitely made it well known I would love for us to bring in Gordon, but at the least, a similar type signing would be good to have as an option and can bring in a more talented player in during the summer window.

I think we've done it more than some may think, but obviously less than other teams.

Iraola, Mena and Chanot are all in addition to Lampard and Pirlo. What we haven't done is anything significant in the last 2 years, outside of maybe Castellanos.

Good point, though spending basic cap money will affect our ability to TAM someone later, if I understand it correctly (and I'm only mildly confident I do).

But, assume we have exactly 1 max budget charge left of regular cap space, which is $530k this year. Then right now we need enough TAM to buy someone down to $530k. But if we add someone new for say, $300k, then we have only $230k left, and need enough TAM to pay someone down to that figure, I think. Which limits the potential salary of the incoming guy somewhat.

Pretty sure we’ve barely touched the discretionary TAM so we should have a monster load of it to tap if the club chooses to.

The next time one of you fancy boys is with Brad Sims, please ask him:

Where the Arteta money went (inside Everton joke)?

Where the Harrison money went and how much is left over?

How much TAM we have spent since it’s creation

How much discretionary TAM we have spent

Thanks

If only we had a handy visual representation of our during season player movement ...
