Really the two big losses have been Villa and Yangel, and you could say Parks is a step in replacing Yangel.

Striker and depth signings are what’s needed.

Parks will be interesting. He’s a more fluid offensive player than Yangel. But he provides none of the bite that Herrera did defensively.

I think we’ll ultimatelt end up NOT liking Parks because he won’t put in the good tackle that Herrera did, but he may spring a guy like Isi or Lewis now and then with a pass.

If Parks starts, I wonder if that means Ring will revert back to just being our Defensive destroyer or not. Dome seemed to enjoy letting Ring run free box-to-box, and focus less on defensive duties (vs. how Vieira employed him as a pure defensive mid). If Dome changes and Ring is just going to set an anchor down in front of our CBs, I think Keaton will do well for us and allow him to play to his strengths (offensive passing and runs). However, if Ring is still tasked with going forward and Keaton has to stay back and defend similar to Herrera, I see your statement coming true.

He's most definitely not an exact type-for-type replacement for Herrera, and I think we all need to know that, accept that, and not expect him to be going hard into tackles. Maybe having an additional skilled passer next to Maxi may open up his play, since teams may not be able to just take him (Maxi) out to smother our attack (re: playoffs vs. ATL).

Useful reference. It's nice to know where we are in relation to others, but I also wonder where we stand on an objective scale. What's the right and necessary roster number? At 31, does Portland have too many, or does everyone else have to catch up to that? I thought 28 was the norm, but ida no?

Also, DC has a whole lot to do, and many moving parts, per the Atlantic.

They have an option to buy Asad for $700k, and asked the seller to spread it over 2 years for cap purposes. That club said yes, but also wants more $$ as compensation, which is completely normal, but DC can't pay it and meet all their other roster wants within budget. This is affecting their dealing with Acosta too.

Max is 30 so yeah, Portland's got too many. Looks like most teams last year had 28–30: https://www.mlssoccer.com/rosters/2018

Five to seven signings to go for NYCFC!

Off topic, but it wouldn’t it make more sense for Queensboro FC to be a joint venture between CFG and the DV7 group? How the hell is Villa carrying those costs on his own?
I believe I read DV has a net worth around $50M, and that was before his far-east tour, so he’s got the funds to do the team on his own (not the stadium) if he wants to. I’d still assume he’s got partners (for the team and stadium), and maybe it’s CFG, but that’s not a given nor alluded to anywhere in the media. It could be anybody else with deep pockets, and hopefully it is another person/entity to limit what CFG does in the city since the branding for NYCFC has been so original.
