All three of our DPs are South American. Are we getting back aboard the Neymar train? Lol. We're so desperate for hints, it's as bad as he stadium "signs of smoke" days.

True. Of the three, Martins leaving would not be a step back. Slot in Risa / Chanot for the rest of this season then go get a new right footed CB for TAM money. All three of our DPs are South American.
The wording in that tweet does make me wonder. "major roster-building event" and "not a step forward in my eyes"... one interpretation is that he personally isn't a fan of bringing Neymar in (in lieu of someone hungrier, younger, more team-oriented, less high-maintenance)... but it would indisputably be a major roster-building event. Are we getting back aboard the Neymar train? The very silly Neymar roadmap I was considering, based on the 3 items FootyLovin quoted were:The wording in that tweet does make me wonder. I have heard that rosters can be updated before the knockout stage beginsReported official roster list for NYCFC in Leagues Cup. This account isn't perfect but it's rarely BS either.
Bakrar is on it, Risa is not. There's no explanation of exactly what these rosters represent. They're presumably for the whole tournament, but can they be changed? Maybe this one was made before the Risa transfer? There are 4 keepers.
- Hey David, we need a 4th string keeper for the Leagues Cup!
- OK, I'll find some Rando for you.
It would be dumb for MLS to co-invent a tournament that runs in the middle of its season and begins during the summer transfer window, and then freeze rosters so new players cannot join. But then why require pre-Tournament rosters at all. This ain't the World Cup.
Isn't the major difference that all three of these players had transfer agreements in place well in advanced of the July 5 transfer window opening?
There’s always January? Also - when you wait until the summer to make all these moves…there’s no summer window to fix your mistakes and plug players. You’re banking on these new guys working.
So many people have called for Lee's head. So hard to tell from the outside what moves and non-moves are on him vs the CFG machine. They really have made many very shrewd decisions. The lack of players signed this past winter and no players lined up and ready to roll the beginning of this window seems really odd in contrast.Getting paid for him given his post-2019 output and injury record was among the best business David Lee has managed.
Some rumors are just rumors. So if Neymar rumors are dead, how does all this fit in with (a) the expressed intention of the team to bring in 3 new players (at least that's what I remember - 1 defense and 2 attacking) (b) Bakrar getting the #9 and (c) rumors of a south american departure? Neymar was the one concept that put those all together for me. Anyone have a plan B theory?
Agree with all of this except that on the Blue Balls Pod Trey strongly implied that there had been contact between CFG and Neymar, though obviously nothing substantial came of it. The original rumor was just that we made him an offer, which it seems like we did. He probably just laughed and deleted it, though. Some rumors are just rumors.
Some plans don't work out.
I'm not sure there ever was an expressed intention by the team to bring in at least 3 players. But doing so seems to be a rational expectation.
The Neymar thing was 98% multiple news outlets repeating an unsourced report from an anonymous twitter account.
We don't know if David Lee is handcuffed until Taty/Lazio is 100% complete. Personally, even if the Taty deal is holding things up I think we lost out on Frigan because his price ended higher than we were willing to pay.
There's still time for the SA rumors and other signings to play out but if we are waiting for Taty it could end up a scramble.
I think that’s the point. Why weren’t our deals in place?
