Well, I started to write the other day but then got distracted and deleted. What if this was the plan (hope) all along? CFG kept costs down in early 2023 in order to facilitate (justify) this move. Would this make the whole non-replacement of Taty make more sense?
One, I'm still very, very dubious. I've yet to see one individual or outlet claim to have verified the secret scout report. And the working assumption/understanding for years now (with good reason) is that NYCFC doesn't go after guys like this. It also seems too early to be doing this as a stadium-related boost.

Two, if it is real, I think it probably justifies the sequence of events, though they still probably should have gotten some MLS mid-level striker for the first 70% of the season, because with Taty, Heber and Thiago all gone there should be budget and roster room for both that player and Neymar.

I admittedly haven't watched Neymar play hardly at all since he moved to PSG, but his G+A/90 at PSG is above 1, with the last 2 years being 0.81 and 1.20. And though he seems to have a reputation for getting hurt, he's averaged 29 games in all comps per year for PSG, plus his Brazil appearances, and has never played fewer than 2,300 minutes for PSG. I think that's acceptable.

how legit is this Nico Bravo ? I don’t really know him . I’m still dubious myself but I do find it very amusing that there’s anyone who wouldn’t want him . He could prove me wrong and get injured or not try etc but on pure talent he’d probably be the best player to have put on our shirt . Even if did miss some time and not put in 💯 I’d imagine he’d still score a lot more than who we’ve had up front so far this season .

PSG paid Neymar $53M in salary last year. How on earth can any MLS team afford that? Is CFG just breaking out the oil money and saying screw it we want to make a splash? Is MLS subsidizing part of it as they plan to just push all their chips in and try to turbocharge the profile of the league while Messi is here? Even if Neymar came at a discount for some reason it's hard to see where the money comes from.

Wake me up when Bogert or Romano has something to say about who we are signing.
This!

But also, I’ll admit I’ve probably checked back here more times today than any other day this season. Curiosity definitely mounting.

Might also have something to do with being (mostly) couch bound on the day after hernia surgery. Glad it’s an away match today.

The reports are that Neymar and PSG are in talks to a mutual voiding of the contract. If so, there's both no transfer fee and Neymar and CFG can agree to a completely new salary. I still don't see him agreeing to less than $40M though. So, yeah, I'm dubious, but I don't think it has to be $53M.

Would you take a washed up Neymar when our stadium opens in 2026/27? Might be a way to make it work. Basically the Messi deal but with Neymar

Watching RSL and Orlando. Chico scored 23 minutes into his debut for Real. He’s been signed and either training or atleast watching tape and being around the team building chemistry for a few weeks. So his debut is going really well and he’s not having to take the time learn the team. Why hasn’t this team signed a player weeks ago and started integrating them?

Unless we sign Neymar or a near equivalent it's been malpractice.

Because after winning MLS Cup in 2021 our front office has been mind-numbingly complacent.
