2024 General MLS Transfer Thread

Due to our lack of roster turnover, there aren't a lot of moves we can make this winter.
We really don't have a lot of moves at all. Two goalkeepers, five forwards, six midfielders and six defenders are locks for the 20-man. That leaves only one spot, and if we carry three goalkeepers it's none unless we move someone.

I don’t think I agree with us not having roster/cap space. We have 2 dps and 3, but more likely 2 U22s on the roster. Andrade and Sands were both TAM players and left. There is space for good additions.

There is a possibility Sands returns so I don't believe they'll replace him with an expensive option.

There is, but someone must move somewhere. Let's assume two goalkeepers.

G: Freese, Ranjitsingh
D: Gray, Ilenic, Martins, Risa, Tanasijevic, O'Toole
M: Haak, Moralez, Parks, Perea, Rodriguez, Wolf
F: Martinez, Bakrar, Ojeda, Fernandez, Jones

That's 19 guys. If we carry a third goalkeeper, that's our 20. If we don't, we're likely looking to cover O'Toole at left back because that's the only single point failure with no backup.

Now, if players start getting transferred, different story. And that very much may happen with a new gaffer. And maybe we'll make a splash with the one DP and go with two goalkeepers with the understanding we have a couple at the Deuce who can come up if there's an injury.

I'm just saying, as it stands now, we don't have a ton of flexibility unless someone finds a new home.

Haak and Jones were both on the supplemental roster last year, so they don't count towards those 20. We probably are at 17 or 18 players depending on what happens with Jovan.

We're allowed to have up to 30 players contracted (not including players out on loan). The top 20 salaries are on our senior roster, then we can have up to 10 players on the suppplemental roster. Also a bunch of the younger homegrowns are off-roster and unavailable, they would have to be called up to the big club in order to play for us. (Carrizo, Rando, Shore, etc).

FWIW, Romero was on the supplemental roster last year, too, so he shouldn't count even if he stays with the first team.

Right, I get all that, but I'm not talking about the roster rules per se. I'm talking about the people we already have on the squad. The players I named are that squad, and there are 19 of them, and possibly 20 if we carry three goalkeepers on matchday.

Of course, according to the rules, we can move some pieces around. But after throwing over the table and rebuilding across three windows, I highly doubt we're going to have any wholesale changes again, especially since we're already in camp. This is the squad we're running with.

EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised to see us keep our DP in our pocket until the secondary window.
