2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

This would be a fantastic acquisition IMO. Very intelligent, experienced, solid d-mid. Good passer. Unless his form/fitness has fallen off a cliff recently, this is a no brainer if he wants to come here.
Looks like he hasn't played since Oct. 19, 2024. He came off the bench for 18 minutes.

He came on as a sub the two October matches prior to that for 10 minutes and 19 minutes, respectively. Barely saw the pitch in August and September except for the starting the first game of the year on Aug. 18. He got subbed off in that one after 71 minutes.

There may have been an injury in there somewhere. It profiles that way. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, he's a hard player to gauge. He was mostly a bench/rotation player for Leicester City 2016-2023 with some loans in that time so he certainly has top-flight experience. Aside from his age, my concern is that he's not getting time on the 6th place team in Ligue 1. I'd get eviscerated for saying this in any Euro-heavy forum but Ligue 1 is very top-heavy talent-wise, I honestly think the better MLS teams could compete with the bottom 3/4 of League One teams.

I vaguely remember him as a starter for Nice over a decade ago. Those guys had a habit of clobbering Stade Rennais, so it stuck in my mind a little.

Agreed on Ligue 1, though. Once you get past the top three or four teams on the table, the quality really starts to drop off.

Mendy isn't very physically imposing, either. He doesn't strike me as a great fit.

It’s okay. In 2 years we’ll have the perfect replacement

We weren’t winning any trophies with Santi as the lead dp on a roster build, but I have no confidence his roster spot will be filled either efficiently or successfully.
Was going to say something similar to this. As a DP in the league I wanted more from Santi. Now that our only 10 is Maxi, there has to be a plan to upgrade the midfield. Two DP slots and a U-22 spot. Hopefully they fill Atleast one of the DPs this transfer window.

Was hoping to see an further improved santi this season. Even more mature and ready to be the talisman.

Get carrizo and throw him in the deep end I guess? Seems like a Lee kind of move

Or Hannes slides into midfield and opens up a wing. I haven't dug in (I'm digging out right now) to think it through yet, but that would be one option.

I'd imagine Maxi would start the season as the 10, though. Carrizo is going to be great, and before too long, but he doesn't even turn 17 years old until the end of the month.

A DP spot has to be used on a No. 10 if Santi leaves. For now, Maxi and Wolf can play that spot but we need a star DP No. 10, not a 19-year-old. Huge moment for David Lee. His job is on the line with that signing.

I don't see wolf as a 10. He's not that creative, not a great dribbler and his ball retention is pretty average at best. Our best option at the moment if Santi leaves? Probably.. but only because we have no depth and the dropoff is too great otherwise

I wonder if the team tries to make a transfer for Evander, who is apparently on the outs in Portland. 15 goals, 15 assists last year. The European transfer market is closed, so it might be hard for us to find the right external player until summer since teams there can't sign replacements.

I think ZYanksRule has it right. ☝️ We can get by for a little while, but using the DP slot on a bona fide starting No. 10 (preferably an experienced one in their mid-20s) is a must.

Let's hope and pray the vaunted CFG scouting network has been on this for a while. If we were caught flat-footed, that might be enough to put Lee's keester in a briefcase. There should always be a contingency plan, especially if your model is scout young, develop and sell.

Always.
