2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

If anyone thought Talles Magno would be coming back...

from the horse's mouth. guess his ambitions aren't that lofty or he thinks he can impress in brazil and get scooped up to europe from there, which is, of course, possible.

i guess the good news is he says the club knows his intentions, so Lee should be looking for a DP to fill his spot, right? RIGHT?!?

Seems like the smartest move for Magno. He said it himself that it was difficult for him to play his game in MLS. From a recruiting standpoint, I don't think European clubs view MLS as a step up from Brazil. So if leagues are viewed by Europe as essentially equal, why wouldn't Magno want to stay in the league that is more favorable to his style of play?

Oh I agree. He would probably fit better in a technical league like La Liga than the EPL, which is more physical and fast paced. I wish him the best. If he doesn't want to come back, then he shouldn't. I don't want players who don't want to be here.

He must, right? RIGHT?

Just kidding. 😆 I'm sure he has a pretty healthy board. But the top names on it may not even be available until the summer.

as was pointed out before, there are other good leagues that have similar schedules as us. there should be choices there.

don't give him excuses! other clubs in MLS continue to sign players with seemingly no real issues.

Oh, I'm not making excuses. As I've said a few times, we have enough young guys and development projects around. It's time to start winning some damn games. I want a couple plug and play signings and let's get after it. We're off to our third-best start ever. Let's GO.

That being said, I thought Brad and David were both really clear about why they proceed cautiously and don't rush into contracts. Even taking every precaution, you can get burned pretty easily in MLS. It's going to happen no matter what you do. Being patient (which can be frustrating all around, no doubt about it) reduces your risk of blowing money and limited roster slots.

Emphasis on reduces. It doesn't eliminate it.

Anyway, as someone else pointed out, we've come too far in this process to waste our resources on journeymen with average ability or some second level sort-of stars at the tail end, or past, their prime years. The universe of opportunities -- the relevant market as opposed to the total market -- may not be as big as we think.

(We also might have some solutions at hand already ... )

jovan signing pretty much throws that caution out the window, don't you think? he didn't have the personality or skillset that matched our playing style.

As was previously pointed out, signings are hit or miss whether you wait or not. There is really no benefit to waiting. What matters is if the player has the personality and skillset to fit with our preferred playing style.

i'm not talking about signing journeymen. this is CFG for crying out loud. They should have a top 10 list in every position to choose from. I find it hard to believe the "greatest scouting network in the world" can't find a DP level #10 or some solid impactful players in other positions.

Just wanting someone doesn't make them available. We don't know who is on the board. But if it's someone in, say, the Eredivisie, we may not be able to get them until their season ends.

It's frustrating for the fans, of course. But sometimes you just have to wait.

And yes, Jovan was a miss. Jovan was also high on everyone's board. I have a tough time raking David over the coals for being the unlucky guy who bought the pig in a poke.

um.. why not?

if we can get our money back from magno's initial transfer fee, we should sell transfer him and sign a #10 DP. If Lee doesn't even have a top 5 list of DP #10s to choose from at this point, he's a fool.

Right - I agree; I'm saying we should absolutely sign someone now.
