2025 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

I don't understand your comment about Jack coming in to be a 2nd half sub. He is a starter for an almost-midtable team in the EPL. There are more than a handful of players in the whole MLS with that kind of pedigree. He would come to be a star and MVP candidate. He won't, but still, I just don't understand the comment.
Ii was unclear but I think he meant if we had Jack then Wolf would be a useful sub.

It was in reference to Hannes Wolf.

There, fixed it. Took the pronoun out and put Wolf in.

I was scrambling a bit this morning. Sorry!

KDB is one of the best passers of the ball in the last decade. He's also decent on free kicks and can score.

I would take him over an unknown DP from some 2nd or 3rd tier league, which is what i feel like Lee would choose to prove he's got an eye for talent.

Don't love it, but if that's the best we got for 2025, i'll take it.

The other upside of KDB is that his game has never been dependent on pace or athleticism, so he should be able to keep playing at an elite level for a while if he can stay healthy. A big if, given that he has struggled with injuries the last few years.

This is exactly why I'd love to have him -- if we can't find someone younger with the same skill set (but not at the same level, of course).

Big if. The heat is really on David, I'm sure. He absolutely must get this one right, and it must be right ... right away.

Apparently Thiago Martins contract expires at the end of this year. Good. So we'll have 3 DPs to use between this summer transfer window and next one too. Don't resign him as a DP at all.

As a Man City fan I've watched KDB for years. If we can get him it's a no brainer. I mean, I love Maxi but honestly there's no comparison; De Bruyne's that good. Seriously.

Last weekend City was down 2-0 to Crystal Palace after 20 minutes and De Bruyne apparently had had enough, kicked it into another gear, took over the match, and started covering the entire field. He scored the first City goal ten minutes later, spearheaded the next four City goals, and totally turned the match around.

I would welcome him to the club in a heartbeat.

He was 4th in ballon d'or voting 2 years ago. He's been up there with Salah as one of the few truly uncontested superstars of the EPL for almost a decade.

I'd love KDB here but my gut tells me it's not happening. If it were next year, that'd be perfect--Maxi 39, and the stadium a year away. It feels a season too early. I see him going to either Chicago or Saudi. Hope I'm wrong! Maybe he goes to Saudi for a year then here, to reunite with Pep :D

i don't see him going to saudi because his family situation seems pretty important to him. i think he stays in europe or comes to MLS but more than likely won't be with us. and we will curse lee for it ... of course

I so struggle to understand any of these guys with families going to Saudi. Is the incremental money vs MLS and what they already have in the bank that life changing vs the experience for their wives and daughters?

Another question is whether becoming a big star in the United States leads to commercial opportunities that help close the gap between what MLS will pay and what the Saudi league will pay.

That might not be a big number for everyone, but I do think Ronaldo was short sighted to not realize the commercial potential of playing here.
