American Dps For Nycfc

So if it would come down to it, who would you rather have now? Jermaine Jones or Mix?
Jones allows for immediate success but sets you up for a retool in 3-4 years.

Mix has the potential to be a long lasting, solid contributor but not a sure thing out of the gate.

My answer depends on who else they get. Jones is more of defensive/central mid where Mix likes the attacking role. If NYCFC gets a decent d-mid or attacking MF, that would guide my choice.

I would say Jones can play both roles, not sure Mix can.

He was awesome tonight. Kreis and Reyna need to do whatever it takes. An American DP who can be the all-out box-to-box destroyer you need, oh and he can score too.

I have several mates that watch him week-in, week-out in the Bundesliga and they agree he is playing very well right now but attribute it to the "World Cup" effect which often happens in the tournament. That is, he is overachieving in the limited number of high-profile matches and he generally does not play that well consistently for his club.

That said, perhaps Bundesliga is just a step too far for him now and he would be perfect for the MLS. He has shown he can be disciplined and opportunistic.

You know he plays in Turkey now, right?

He only began with Besiktas in January, and they have been watching him with Schalke for quite some time—not to mention the Bundesliga is a much stronger league than the Super Lig—which is why I referred to their assessment. In fact, he was loaned out because his performances were erratic and often subpar.

That's not entirely true, or maybe it's not the entirety of the truth I should say. He was unhappy and injured and fell out of favor. He then demanded a transfer. His wages were so high, it made it difficult to find a place.

He was a long-time stalwart of the midfield of a perennial ECL team. That's not the role of a player who is "erratic and subpar".

I would say there is nothing in "erratic and subpar" that is contradicted by "unhappy and injured and fell out of favor". And Schalke would not have acquiesced the request (though, from what I have heard there is some debate as to whether Schalke began shopping him before that, anyway) if they felt he was of a standard worth keeping (and less likely he would have fallen out of favour). But I agree there is obviously more to the truth than either of us are privy to.

There has been many a player that was not of the highest quality playing regularly for a Champions League club (Celtic, Basel, and Rubin Kazan comes to mind, just to name a few clubs with good but not great players).

But my point was and is he may do well in the MLS.

Eh, I just think your friends are wrong in their assessment. And those teams aren't Bundesliga.

I also think he would be a good player for NYCFC. I would not think that if I believed he was erratic.

Fair enough, though, I trust their judgement as they're season ticket holders and youth football coaches. And yes, those are not Bundesliga clubs, but my point was to establish that their are many non-world class players in the Champions League every year, so that inofitself is not a great measure of talent.

Also, a player can be fairly erratic in one league, for many reasons, and find better form and consistency in another (and vice verse).

At any rate, we'll see where he ends up.

Is he available on a Free? If no, he won't be coming here I don't think.
I think you still take Mix because he becomes the long term face of the franchise.

I think Fabian Johnson has been even more of a breakout star than Jones. But Jones has been great. And he plays the game very "American" like.

From what I have seen Fabian Johnson would play the "City system" very well. He could be NYCFC's Zabaleta (widely regarded as the best rightback in the Premier League) with more pace.

Would love to see him in NYC.

The JJ move almost seems a no brainer at this point. He's on a free, he moved his family here already, and he's now made himself a household name.

Who was at the LA Galaxy/Portland Timbers game last night?
