American Dps For Nycfc

How in the hell is that a terrible attitude? If you have your choice of employers, why wouldn't you negotiate? It sounds like he's doing the right thing to me. If employer A is your preferred job, but B is offering substantially more money, then you'd be crazy not to try to get A to match it. He has a limited window to stash away enough money to take care of him and his for 50 more years. I would never resent someone for trying to get what he's worth.

On the field, he has shown himself capable of being perhaps the best DM in MLS. If some EPL team will pay him what he's worth and MLS won't, then he should take the money. It ain't show friends, it's show business.

Speaking from a position where fairly high level negotiation is a weekly experience, I understand your perspective. But I also understand (and can relate to) @Kjbert 's thoughts.

There is a difference between a strong position and sense of entitlement leading to unreasonable expectations. The latter, if tolerated, can result in a very poor outcome for at least one of the parties involved in a deal or transaction (sometimes catastrophic, actually). But I'm not yet sure where Jones falls on that continuum.

For those that wish to see the Fox Sports interview that sparked this discussion I've included the link below. If you also want a good laugh read the transcript—it's hard to believe no one has corrected the auto-dictation.

I have no problem with him trying to get the most out of a deal with the MLS. If he wants a contract for multiple years and wants to finish his career here in the US then by all means he should push for a deal worth 4 or 5 years. And if those demands can't be met then he should pursue elsewhere.

And/or MLS should look elsewhere if they deem his demands to be unreasonable. It is always at least a two sided transaction.

If I was interviewing someone for a job that paid a lot of money and they asked if I would meet their "demands" I would hire someone else. Awful word

He's just recently gotten to the point he'll even speak English with the media, and you're giving the guy hell for using "demand"? Come on. You got it right the post before last I think.

That is a valid point. Though, I am fairly sure he didn't just become proficient in English (as most Germans are continually taught the language beginning at a very young age and are at least conversational by the time they leave secondary school). Add to that the fact that Germans do not generally use words in which they are unfamiliar with the exact meaning or context they are conveying (as my Swiss-German wife constantly reminds me) and I'll always assume what was said is exactly what was meant.

However, as I said before, none of us are in a position to know which position, if either, is "unreasonable", so there is no way to determine where Jones falls on the negotiation position continuum.

But we'll likely find out soon enough.

He could have meant it. It's not like he's ever been known for being meek. If he'd have stayed in the US, he'd have probably have ended up playing safety in the NFL. Then, no one would raise an eyebrow if he made "demands".

Who cares. Just pay him. It's not like money is an issue with this team. I'm sure David Villa had specific demands as well. This is what the modern game is these days.

I'm sure he did. But the proper place for those demands is in a board room with your agent. Not on your post WC publicity tour.

Alexis Lalas, picked up by BT Sport coverage of MCFC's friendly with Sporting KC, has just said that he believes Jermaine Jones is pricing himself out of a move to MLS and "wants too much money".

Interesting that an American pundit, formerly an executive in MLS, would call him out that way.

Fuck Lalas. His persona is antagonistic twat.

Jones is substantially better for the club and league style of play than Lampard. And he has no baggage.

If the execs don't get that, then I worry about how much the team will endear itself to this market.
