American Dps For Nycfc

Brooks too young and hasn't proven anything. As a USMNT fan, I want to see him develop over there. He already turned down a move to Bayern Munich!

Bradley is different in his move. Same with Dempsey - that was life changing money for those guys.

Like City who could loan him to NYC for a season to see how he does?

That would be the only way he would arrive in NYC. But unlikely.

idk man, look at micheal bradley coming here from Roma. Or even Gilberto at Toronto. It could very well happen. However, I think the most likely young american to cross the pond is Terrence boyd. How would you guys feel about him partnering with Villa up top?

Boyd is interesting in my opinion. He has good attacking instincts and hold up play. He is attracting interest from wigan atheltic who are in the championship in England. They are trying to get him at 3 million. That is a very small price tag for a player like him in my opinion.

Michael Bradley moving was a bit different. Older, more accustomed to American culture, and being pushed down the pecking order at Roma. Again, I think if it comes down to a Southampton or Schalke versus NYCFC or LA Galaxy, I know which I would pick that young after growing up in Germany.

In the future I think that will be a much more difficult decision but now I think for many reasons already discussed it is fairly straight forward.

I think you pick Schalke in that scenario. Are they playing in Europe this season? Always pick Champions League or Europa League football

Southampton might get relegated next year. But they are great at developing players so???

Exactly, I would chose Schalke, who did qualify for Champions League next year, or Southampton, who I think will be a presence in the league closest to US audiences (even if they lose Lallana and Shaw in addition to Lambert, who was a flash in the pan, anyway). Or a similar opportunity.

Too bad, though, as I think he is a true prospect.

Great idea. That would be great for NYC and for MC. I think he has the potential to be a top 5-10 CB in the world when it all finally clicks for him. As Herzog said, he just needs to learn to be a dirtbag sometimes.

His passing is really damn good. And now he's got experience on the world's brightest stage. He's ready to make the leap. I'd love to see the fortuitous goal catapult him to the next level in his club career. Right now, Stoke and Villa seem to be the clubs most interested, particularly Villa. I hope he gets a better offer, but I'm sure Guzan would love to have him. Many times this year, Villa's defense was a sieve.

Back to NYC, I think it's a bit hard to make the argument for him to come here since he's already a B1 starter when healthy. But he would be a coup, no doubt. Klinsy would have a damn fit though, except for the fact that he'd be able to grab him for Olympic qualifying. As it stands, he's too likely to be featuring for his club to get released for those.

So, we've mentioned him before, but now that we know he is available on a free, I think Jermaine Junior could be our perfect destroyer. We could sign him for probably 3.5-4 million/yr on a one year contract with option for two.

He still has it. I was worried he didn't, but it seems to really have been an injury issue that was slowing him down.

He's already moved his family to LA, so I think it's simply a matter of someone in MLS giving him the $. The hesitation before has probably been about the US public not knowing him so well. With a few more performances such as the one against Ghana, that won't be much of a worry.

As a USMNT fan, I can't help but think what could have been in South Africa if we'd have had him instead of Ricardo Clark. I think he puts us through to the semis in that team. Having him in his prime out there with Donovan and Dempsey in their prime would have made our counter attack really dangerous, and he'd have been much better cover for those slow CBs we had.

I agree that JJ would be a great addition. Imagine if NYC got Mix and JJ instead of Frank? That would be a nice duo and one that could last a few years.

Still think NYCFC wants "spine" DPs. So I think they'll focus on one DP in the middle and another in center defense or even GK.

I see no way we sign a DP in goal, and I would be surprised about a CB. Given the pool of keeper talent, it's not economically efficient to use a slot for a GK. I just don't think the WAR could be great enough. For my money, you snag a keeper or two from the expansion draft and call it a day while developing someone within. Plenty of solid keepers will be left unprotected.

To some (lesser) extent, CB is the same for me, unless we can get a CB who is just stellar with the ball at his feet.

it has seemed like you can get a backline and GK through MLS. The tough spot is to find attacking and creative players. Which is why I think the next two DPs will be one guy who can put the ball in the goal and another guy who can create for others.

Wasn't there a tweet or something where Reyna said they were going the spine route for DPs?

Anyone else remember that?
He did mention building up the middle but he didnt say that the DP's would used up the middle. I think he mentioned they would get a GK first which didnt happen. I think they want to build the spine first but that doesnt meant the spine players will be DP.

I completely agree with this. There are plenty of GKs and defenders in MLS that NYCFC could build a solid back line with. What we will have a hard time finding in MLS is technically gifted attackers/creators. So those are the guys the management should be looking to use the DP slots for.

I'll be disappointed if Reyna uses a slot on on the back line or for a keeper.

It's worth considering that if NYCFC are to play "the City way" it will involve playing quite a high defensive line, which is not an easy thing for defenders to adjust to - it leaves a lot of space for strikers to run into and requires them to either commit to an early interception at the risk of leaving a clear run through on goal, or to tracking strikers back and boxing them out without letting an exploitable gap appear between the centre-backs. In this respect, it might be wise to have an experienced DP defender, as inexperienced or lesser-skilled players can really struggle quite badly to play that style. Even having only one experienced defender can anchor a defence enough to make the world of difference.

Thank you. Yes you are right that is what he said.

And I agree that the DPs should not be used on defense or GK.

With that said, if NYCFC doesn't use at least one DP on a American I will be a little disappointed. And it's okay if it isn't Mix Diskerud, even though he is very talented & has great hair.

I'd be disappointed as well. I remember reading something last year that portland had a discovery claim on mix. Can't find it now. Is that true? I remember mix talking a lot about caleb porter as well. If we can't get mix, Jermaine jones would be awesome. I agree with the philosophy of building a strong spine first.

Personally, I hate discovery claims.
