Away - August 20 - Red Bulls (Postgame)

can we just cut our losses with Ronnie? the guy is as indifferent as ever when he talks about the team. doesn't even crack a smile. whatever he says amounts to nothing more than platitudes. We keep saying his "system" doesn't work, but I'm not so sure he even has a system. With Dome, he ripped apart the rigid structure Patrick built but even early in the season when everyone was all "DomeOut", there was "some" direction and even the harshest critics could see that there was indeed a system. I don't see that with Ronnie. He's lost. His subs make no sense. In my view, the guys do NOT want to play for him. When he first arrived, they were all gung ho and said they liked his energy but now I think it's changed for whatever reason.

We were down a goal and we had no urgency going forward in a derby.

Give Cushing the job and sack Ronnie before things get worse. I guarantee Cushing plays the true City style, not this bullshit Ronnie thinks is "similar to how we played last year". it's not similar at all. it's everything Dome used to complain about after poor performances: defending too deep and hitting too many long balls.

It doesn’t look like Deila has lost the players, but rather that he never won them over in the first place. There is no other explanation to these endless, lackluster one-nils, the players don’t become shit overnight.

I've long been on the side of not worrying, it'll be OK.

This game has me hopping off that side. This is really bad. The team didn't just forget how to play soccer over the last 9 months. Something is wrong, and there's only one thing different from last year. These first few games have looked a lot like the way Dome's first six games last year looked. Listless and unable to attack. I don't know whether Ronny has it in him to turn this around, but I definitely have less faith in him than I did in Dome.

I was only able to watch the first half. We lost power and my reception was so bad I couldn’t even load the chat. The team doesn’t suck, the coach is bad. We got beat by a bunch of homegrowns, USL players and subs from last year. We made no attempt at actually going at them. The ESPN stream had RB announcers and they even said it’s not a good RB side but a hard working one.
You’re asking players that can barely connect a pass 10 yards in front of them to play balls over the top successfully. He even admitted that he asked for intensity coming into the 2nd half and they didn’t deliver. I’ve heard it so many times in regard to teams that drop back how it’s not easy to flip that switch and suddenly attack.

I’m not here to defend Ronny but is he really the reason this team didn’t put 1 ball in the net last night?
I haven’t replayed Hebers chances, but seems like dude should of had at least one goal last night.
Our forwards don’t appear to have enough speed and/or 1 v 1 skills.
Ronny may be clueless but the losing is looking like a team effort.

I feel bad for Acevedo.

Same, I feel bad for the all of the kids too. Remember Haak, Scally, and Gray and their apparent potential? Haven't even come close to seeing them get any playing time. Scally probably can't wait until his transfer happens so he can play for a coach that understands soccer or will give him a chance.

Not only has Ronnie destroyed the setup of this team, he's barely giving any time to our younglings to show what they've got. I mean, GMS has just done soooooo much to show his worth being subbed in every game.... right? Mind boggling subs each game.

The only reason I am unhappy about not being able to go to games in person is that I can't hold up a large #RonnyOut Sign. It's fallen apart and we need to cut our losses before he causes even more damage (loss of homegrown development time, contracts, etc.). who is at the end of their contract this year, because if we don't see any movement on changing where things are heading, who would want to stay here and resign?

This.
We have so much talent and it's all going to waste. What a shame. What an absolute shame. Cushing would be a MUCH better coach.

It's horrible watching this team at the moment. We used to be lightning fast on the counter, now we choose to start most of our attacks by launching huge, slow crossfield passes in the name of finding space. It's like watching someone play Mario Tennis on the easiest setting.

Hard to believe how far a player like Tinnerholm can regress under a new system - last year he spent all year doing nice interplay with ITS, now he's just endlessly bombing forward on his own and crossing into no-man's land. The wing-backs are our only outlet going forward, and neither of them are very good at it. Heber looks lost (he was wondering around our own half at one point); Ring and Parks are being misused; Mitrita reminded me of Frustrated David Villa (my least favorite) when he came on; I'm yet to remember a meaningful contribution from Gudi or GMS all season.

There was one moment in the first half where SJ played it out short from the back, the RB press came screaming at us, and we just played through it, with short one-touch passes, playing in the direction we were facing, working through the lines. Suddenly we were on the counter, we had men over, and......OK, fine, it didn't come to anything. But by god it was nice to see our players doing what they do best for a change.

Yeah, that did happen... I took note of that passing exchange out of the back and thought I was in a dream.
That kind of play is such an anomaly this season. There was nice soccer for a brief moment from this team.
Ahhhhhh...
Now back to the frustration.

THIS

We pass just to pass when in possession

against a team with no threat of breaking us down we decide to...play 9 behind the ball?

I think that's what upsets me the most -- the Red Bulls stink. They are not good, and we're just letting them stay in the game by not playing skillful soccer. It was an infuriating gameplan, and the players looked like they had no idea what to do out there.

Someone has to be asking Deila WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? What’s the goal here? You don’t win games defending for 90 minutes. Maybe even the worst teams in our league are better than the average club in Scottish Premiership

That was a pretty abysmal performance. Not entertaining in the least. A shame really for what is usually an emotionally charged derby game.

I know it takes time to get into peak match fitness but boy do they look sloooooooow.

They should be looking better by now. They've played 6 games now since July 9. Despite the 19-day break, they've had enough games to get match-fit. I'm not sure that excuse holds water anymore.

Thing is. We don’t even defend well
