College Football

I hope Ohio State and the Bears stay away from Marcus Freeman.
Interesting debate would be whether the OSU job is preferable to ND right now. OSU probably offers more support and resources and NIL, but it's kind of toxic at the moment. If you come in and don't both beat Michigan immediately and win a natty by year 3 I think you're on the hot seat. Sustained excellence is not sufficient in that job, unless you also do the other 2 things.

Lots of speculation that the Bears go after the Lions OC, which is fine this Vikings fan. But Freeman will almost certainly get a chance to at least interview for NFL jobs, and he'll need to decide if he wants to be a CFB coaching lifer and try to make a legacy at ND, or go for the glitter.

Watching Florida vs. FSU. I am still trying to wrap my head around the name of FSU’s quarterback.

(know what I mean Dnigly13?)

So, with him fired, what's Plan B?
Lots of speculation but no clear front runner, especially when you consider the likelihood of candidates leaving their current position. Oddly though, the consensus seems to be that whoever it is will be an upgrade. I've defended Sherrone on Reddit and until this week I very much liked him, but for all that I think he was still learning on the job and it hurt the program. Inheriting a perennial Top 25 (mostly Top 10-15) blue blood program with zero head coaching experience can be daunting even for the best. I think he struggled with some delegation and hiring elements of the job, and a bit with game management.

I think he struggled with management of something a bit more, ahem, personal.

Is there any clarity on what exactly was going on with Sherrone and why he was arrested?
Official info is sparse: he was fired for an inappropriate relationship with an employee, and was arrested after incidents at both his home and that employee's home the day he was fired. He's being arraigned today.

Unofficially but according to reasonably reputable reporters,
  • the other employee was a direct report
  • the university received a tip about the relationship weeks to months ago, and interviewed both parties who both denied it. In the absence of real evidence, little to nothing more could be done. It's SOP to tell subordinates in such interviews that they cannot be fired, or face retaliation, etc., but if they still choose not to report or substantiate a report, that often ends it.
  • Evidence turned up on Wednesday and Moore was fired. We don't what that was. The employee is reported to have changed her story to confirm the affair, but it is unknown whether other evidence precipitated that change.
  • He may have threatened self harm and/or other harm at his home or the employee's home. We might learn that after the arraignment this afternoon. It is expected he will be charged with assault, but in criminal law assault can consist of a threat with proximity without contact. Contact is battery.
