Concacaf Champions League

I would hope that CONCACAF's president (Jeffrey Webb), who also heads FIFA's anti-racism task force, would not let this pass without comment or sanction

Congrats to Montreal, but Canada teams have the easiest path. I'd hate for MLS's first win be the pathetic Impact.

Anyways,,,

can you explain this to me? i see lots of hate on twitter too because they are a canadian team ( even though i think they do have more americans than canadians in that team) but i thought all MLS fans would be in a "lets go MLS" mentality.

OK nice job getting to finals, now lose so we can be first MLS team to win it.
unless america pulls out a miracle in the azteca ( which i doubt considering their lackluster season even in liga MX) then its easy pickings for the impact as i dont see herdiano being as strong as alajuelense, at least in my opinion.

Galaxy and DC won the Champions Cup before it became the Champions League - those don't count?
technically yes at least i think so, even though the format did change drastically. however under current format only RSL has reached final but before that i think its been like 10 years or so since the last MLS win.

Easy pickings? I had a great time watching the games and Montreal deserves a lot of credit but it isn't as if they've been dominant.
but they did go thru, even if its with away goals this and previous round. By now i feel they know what to expect and can manage their way thru.

I dont know i always thought alajuelense was the stronger of the remaining CR teams. thats why i think they will be in good shape.

Nothing against Canadian teams but they do have a simple path to get to the final rounds. Montreal qualified last year and they were the worse team in MLS, literally. Worse than Chivas.

Add to that I don't want montreal winning before my team. So no not everyone wants a MLS team to win it.

But I'll probably root for them anyway :sigh:.

This is a concept I've noticed in being fairly new to following an MLS team. There seem to be people who are fans of MLS in general in addition to being fans of a team. That makes no sense to me. I pretty much despise all other MLS teams, to varying degrees, and I don't want to see another one do well in any competition. I wonder if the MLS fan is a carryover from when the league was struggling more, who knows. Comments?

I would think the MLS fan is a carryover from when the league was struggling domestically, but since we're still struggling internationally, it makes sense that some non-Impact fans are happy for them (like myself)

if they win, they may say they are the kings of MLS since they have the CCL title? even though they have yet to win MLS title since CCL title> MLS title?

yes this was my perception but i guess that goes on still? I usually dont cheer on other premier league teams in champions league aside from chelsea nor do i cheer on America/ atlas during CCL or libertadores runs.

i do know some who do cheer them all since it represents their league, BPL or Liga MX. but i dont really see it that way, if anything i get bombarded with tweets and annoying comments any time america or other liga mx teams do well in international ( like when Pachuca won the sudamericana)

i guess we shall see what happens in the final, though the only ones i see really hating on their run a Toronto fans, but that seems obvious why.

Any MLS team making a strong showing in this competition reflects well on MLS as a league.
On the flip side when MLS teams make a weak showing it makes the whole league look inferior.
It doesn't matter if there are extenuating circumstances such as the way the MLS season is structured compared to the other leagues. Folks don't care, they just see a political Goliath in the USA (and canada) being felled by David.
Yes the teams play dirty, yes their fields are crap, yes the fans bombard the players with taunts and objects (including bags of urine). That is why it is so satisfying to see a MLS team go down to one of their stadiums and shut them the f*ck up.
I applaud Montreal for sacrificing the front end of the regular season in order to put a solid effort into winning Champions League. Last night's advancement to the finals was hard fought and well deserved.

Rather see Montreal win the CL than ANY Mexican club.

Oooooof course once I criticize America they decide to "wake up"

Though I didn't expect it to be over in 36 mins.

We'll at least it should be an interesting final.

Btw does anyone know how the location is determined for CCL final ? How does Montreal get second leg ? Seems both America and Montreal had same points so not sure how leg order is determined?

The Impact will have home-field advantage as the higher seed in the final thanks to the victory against Alajuelense, who held the first seed in the semifinals after eliminating D.C. United in the quarterfinals.

I hope they don't get blown out.

Unless it's a direct rival, I want any team from the MLS to do well, and that means double for our reputation as a competitive league as a whole.

League placement means a lot for champions league place coefficients and while that may not mean a lot in this present day considering the quality of the current Champions League, it may in the future.

Ask Italy if they care about their teams doing well in Europe. Even AC fans will root for Inter if it means they get to keep a champions league place, even if they won't admit it in public. When it comes to qualification spots, a rising tide is what's needed.

This link below does a good job of explaining it.

Also here is a table for our league. It may not be 100% accurate but it should give you an idea.

I bought 2 actually. Montreal in the spring is amazing, hopefully they don't get blown out in the first round and spoil my trip. One of the best destinations within an hour flight from the city.

Their stadium is so beautiful. Can't wait to go up on July 4th.
