i think i read somewhere that there was no time expiration on this deal for beckham...which is freaking stupid but then again at the time MLS needed a name
Garber has said that Beckham has a deadline, but he's not said what it is.

The big vote in the City Of Miami is the first week of June, right? I think it's the vote on the last 3 acres of land.
Yes. June 6 vote on sale of the land. If successful, there's then needed about a year of wrangling zoning and permits before the "team" (scare quotes valid until they first take the field / pigs fly) can put shovels to ground. Tracking to open 2021, with potential to begin play in a temporary venue in the meantime.

Mayor will veto and the vote will take place.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves giving any city's local politics too much credit. The vote was 8-1, which is sufficient to override the veto. Some councilmembers are on the fence, might go the other way in round 2, but it's no sure thing.

This is another example of an avoidable failure with local pols. This should never have been put on the agenda if the requisite votes weren't committed. It will be harder now because 8 members have already staked a public position and will not be inclined to reverse course and if they do it will be considerably more costly.
Why does MLS and expansion teams continually fall into these unforced errors?

Jeez. Why did they take it to a public vote again? IIRC, they didn't really need to, but actually thought it might improve their chances. Yikes. I don't want to overreact, but with hurdles piling up, I'd re-rank:
1. Miami
2. Sacramento
3. Tampa
4. Phoenix
5. Cincinnati
6. Nashville
7. San Antonio
San Diego, Detroit, St. Louis, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Indianapolis may need to reboot their bids for the inevitable 29-32 range expansion.

It would be weird for me to live in Miami and not buy season tickets because I follow NYC.
NYC will only be downgraded to my #2 side. I really enjoy watching Villa and Harrison play.
Looks like they voted YES 9-4.
At this point it would be a cooler if Miami doesn't play in MLS in 2019.

So I drove up to Atlanta from Miami to visit family and I decided to take in a Atlanta United match tonight at Bobby Dodd Stadium (they don't move in to the new stadium until like August or something).
I reallllllyyyyy hope I'm wrong but I can say with 90% certainty that there is zero chance that a Miami MLS club gets that much support.
I was blown away. Totally packed house. Everyone screaming their brains out in support of their team (Almiron and Martinez scored some really sexy goals) who won convincingly 3-1.
No effing way Miami gets 75% of that turn out for a regular season match.
I'm hammered so hopefully this post makes sense I think I had to edit it 3 times
