Nashville Metro Council is set to approve funding for the Nashville SC stadium today:

Detroit looking more and more likely as well:

One of Nashville and Cincinnati is going to be left out and rightfully upset if Detroit gets their downtown location squared away. Unless there are major issues with Phoenix, San Diego, and San Antonio, in which case it's possible all of Detroit/Cincinnati/Nashville get in along with Sacramento.

Raleigh remains a dark horse but seem to have too slow of a timeline to compete at this time. Especially if Nashville nets #25/26, in which case the Midwest becomes a bigger priority than another Southeast team.

are you assuming Tampa already got a spot?

i think cincy is out...they want a new stadium and there is a whole other can of worms i think with that stuff.

sucks since I wanted san antonio in ( already have stadium, helps the whole "midwest time zone" and have "rivarlries with dallas/ houston)

surprised about detroit....but well see.

maybe Nashville, tampa, sacramento, and detroit?

Forgot to mention them, but honestly, yes. I'm not sold on their ownership group being as wealthy and as professional as desired. And my understanding is they don't have full financing squared away for their stadium, just approvals from local government. It seems like a weak bid that's considered strong on the strength of it's market.

With the handful of great options in the East, it seems like one of Nashville/Raleigh in the Southeast and one of Cincy/Detroit in the Midwest makes the most sense to fill the map.

Cincy has effectively secured the Kentucky riverbank site. They are just trying for an Over-the-Rhine neighborhood site to placate the fans and explore every possible opportunity.

I think it'll be Sacramento and Nashville followed by Phoenix and Detroit.

Dallas and Houston already have each other as rivals though.

San Jose is losing LAG as a primary rival with LAFC entering the league, so Sacramento is perfect to saturate Northern California. Atlanta picks up a local SE rival in Nashville. And then we take two of the top three markets in size to round out to 28. (Phoenix, Detroit, and Tampa are all effectively the same size: http://www.nielsen.com/content/dam/corporate/us/en/public factsheets/tv/2016-local-television-market-universe-estimates.pdf)

That said, I think we end up with at least 30 teams by the World Cup year in 2026.

The KY one is paid for, the OTR one requires something like $100 million from taxpayers. I think you can guess which one is more likely.

There is a contingent that really dislike KY. However, it's not the same as NY/NJ. For one, the KY site is literally on the river. It's not even a 5 minute drive / 10 minute walk over the bridges from the Reds and Bengals stadiums. If it's the difference between getting into MLS and not getting in, I'm sure all their fans will warm up to it quickly.

Even from the north side of the city (by Nippert), the driving distance to the OTR site (north of downtown) is 9 minutes and the driving distance to the KY site (south of downtown) is 16 minutes.

Cincy has a different take on the Kentucky area across the river - they have their airport located there amongst other necessities. It’d be like NYC annexing Hoboken if there was a bridge from Manhattan to Hoboken.
