Yea but spending 1/3 of our designated player spots on a player who can only play 62 minutes isn't inspiring confidence. It's fine at Man City because he's a luxury player but for our aspirations that's not good enough.

Looking at some of the absolute rubbish that other teams have signed as DPS nycfc have done very well .at least frank is still playing at the highest level in the worlds top league.a much better option than Stevie me who's legs went 18 months ago la galaxy are in for a shock when he gets there.

I won't claim definitive knowledge but that is definitely the overall consensus. His contract with MC runs to June 30. The MLS transfer window opens July 8 and our first game after that is July 12 against Toronto. So that would be, under this widely cited view, the first possible game.

And he'll be on vacation from now until July something, right? Hopefully he at least starts training with NYCFC before July 12.

He'll join the team when he's had his rest, probably late July or early August. Nothing to do with the transfer window.
Teams can sign free agents outside the transfer window. Once Lampard's contract with Man City ends, he could join NYCFC at any time.

Only Lampard himself knows exactly when he will report. But the idea of his taking two months off -- all of June and July -- and reporting in August is what I have been assuming since he got extended at Man City.
While we're all eager to have our best and most important player, we have to understand that he simply must have a rest.
People who say that he doesn't need a rest because he didn't play that much at Man City are apparently unaware that football clubs train all week, and that all players named on the substitutes list must be prepared to play. So it's from this daily training regimen alone that Lampard will need a significant amount of rest, if we want him to be able to contribute once he gets out there for us.
My understanding is he would be allowed to train with us - might have to be voluntary on his part. Also not at all sure if there might be limitations on the joint training.
